Pls Help: YAMQ(Yet Another Mail-list Question)

Ok, I won't ask the same questions over and over since I did go through the threads.

But I didn't find an answer to the following, I believe reasonable question:

I added an small "sqaure" opt-in for my newsletter to both my sales pages.
My thinking being, 1% buys, why not try and get some people from the other 99% who didnt buy now but may be interested.

But i DONT want them to leave the site so i had an idea: Make the opt in form in Ajax and found a free script to do that. Problem is I want people to be able to unsubscribe and my script doesnt do it.

Can I accomodate Ajax with Aweber or GetResponse or any other of these guys?

And by the way, I dont understand why everybody insist on spending this money per month. Is it so difficult to get free scripts to do that?
Ok this has been answered. Any people with long lists and many of them that so NOT use Aweber or the other subscription based services ?

Perplexed! Maybe my idea doesn't make sense. I DO give a free gift AND sell a product at the same page.

Comments from experienced marketers would be VERY appreciated!

Cheers!

    Hi there,

Yes, of course you can run your own mailing list but you'll find that a lot of your emails will never reach their destination.

The challenge that you will always face with handling your own mailing list is that it's too easy to wind up on spam blacklists which makes it very difficult to deliver email.

Services such as Aweber and GetResponse are well respected and do not end up on these lists.

I am about to move to one of these services after running my own list for several years via php/MySQL because of this very issue. It's just too difficult when dealing with email addresses from the likes of yahoo.com, gmail.com and others.

      Hey! Thanks for the response.

You didn't answer my question for AJAX. Can it be done?

And by the way i forgot to ask:
HOW effective and how "legal" for Aweber and GR are those "pop-up" or "dropping-down" opt-in forms? You know these annoying things that come up after a few seconds ? And are they effective?

      Cheers!

Sorry I'm not sure about the AJAX question - I have not had direct experience with either of these providers yet. It looks like I will shortly though with Getresponse.

There's a lot of differing opinions on these types of tools. Personally I don't like or use them but a lot of very successful internet marketers use them. I think you can go too far in trying to ensure that all visitors do something on your site.

If you have an aweber account you can create pop-ups that will automatically pop-up, so the leads do straight to a list that you can use to follow-up. Depending on the software you use for the affiliate side of things you can purge the affiliate id so that people get credited for any sales made via the follow-up series.

Also you could look at pasting the aweber code into something like floating action button. This way you can add more text / graphic of the freebie and have more control of the pop-up content.

Use caution with pop-ups, pop-unders, fade-ins... more and more sites will not allow you to advertise your web site with them (FaceBook and Google come to mind) if your web site contains pop-anything. ;-)

They work but keep them reserved for pages of your site which you do not intend on promoting via Google PPC or FaceBook PPC.
