Posting the same article on Multiple directories

Whats the deal with this? Should I post the same exact article to multiple directories / social bookmarking sites, etc. Or is this a big waste of time. Im looking for backlinks. Thanks.

There is a lot of debate about duplicate content at the moment and everybody seems to have a different opinion. I would definitely send a different copy of an article to the bigger article directories. With the smaller directories you could probably use the same article although I would try to change the title. I have sent a lot of the same article out using software to the smaller directories but i have not seen too much profit from doing so. I suggest you pick the top 10-15 article directories get some article rewriter software and send a different copy of your article to each one of those. I think in the long run this will benefit you more than just blasting duplicate content out.

Submit your main or original article to the directory of your choice, wait a day or so and submit the rest and point them to your original article. Your original article should point to your site.

True, It was just an alternative method seeing the OP might think he would get slapped.

From a personal expience I know that not only is there no duplicate content penalty.

In fact I've had the content on my main site stolen and put up on competing sites. Of course Google ranked theirs higher and ignored the fact that I was the original author.

Just google "Myths and Fact About Hail Damage" I actually had to make a frigg'n hubpages so my content would outrank the thieves!

Sorry not trying to hyjack, just ranting a little, Move along! hehe

I always switch the titles around of my articles for each directory. I find that you have a better chance if ranking for different search phrases that way.

On my website there's an example of what my girl managed to do last year when she was 12 and I teached her some tricks of the trade...

She writes articles that get ranked real fast, sometimes under 30 minutes, in top 10.
Often her very same article is ranked multiple times so duplicate content obviously does not hold here.
Even if just from personal experience.

Where duplicate content matters is on your website. You DO NOT want duplicated content on your site.

If you publish an article on your site make sure to ping it (Pingomatic.com) and bookmark it and ping that too. Then make sure if you have a blog that you don't have the same article under categories, tags, search results etc pages in full. Display it as a list or a summary. Best practice is also to have a "more" tag on blog homepage, so as to avoid full content in both places (Homepage and post page), but if you blog a lot the post will move out fast and it#s not too critical.

Duplicate content is a myth. I believe this from the bottom of my heart.

What happened when Tiger Woods came out with his "statement"? Hundreds of news websites printed the exact same quotes. Did CNN, Fox, and ABC suddenly drop in Google for having duplicate content?

    Nope, Nada.

That hits the nail on the head. now, if you are looking for the multiple entries to be counted towards the links then you want them to be unique content. Google will only look at a certain number of links as unique if they are the same exact article.

So, if you're using the article to grab back links I would suggest spinning them. But, I would spin them in and intelligent manner so that when the see the article is spun out it is actually readable.

It is very easy to create a spin ready article that will spit out well written readable articles. You just need to take a little bit of time.

So, my suggestion would be if you're going to be submitting them to hundreds of different directories trying to get back links, is to use a spin ready seed article to create many variations of that article. But, do it in a manner that spits out readable articles that are going to benefit the end user.

But, if you do spin articles, do yourself a favor and take a minute to clean up the grammar. That way you don't just throw away potential traffic.

Yes you can do it depending on what article directory you submit too. Articlesbase.com,Goarticles.com, and Ideamarketers.com are 3 that will accept and Google will index duplicate content.

I would just switch the titles up a bit!

I've done this. Submit my exact same articles but change a word or two - kind of like last minute editing. But, I also wind up adding to my articles because some of the other directories have a 500 word minimum. Sometimes I have to add about 200 words.

It has been said by Google executives that duplicate content penalty IS a myth. Yet there are still people talking about it and unfortunately always will. However, that same executive did say that what Google does is, index the article or content that has the MOST relevance to the keywords or site and the rest get filtered out. SO it is this filtering out that often gets misinterpreted as a "penalty".

As far as the "quotes" you are referring to, the rules are totally different when it pertains to current events. I have been a journalist for many years, and the truth is that when a politician, an artist, or any witness gives a statement, YOU CAN NOT change it, therefore more than one media outlet will have exactly the same statement used in a different context. Now, at some point online you may have encountered exactly the same news article, this is due in great part to the fact that News Companies do not necessarily have a reporter or correspondent to cover every single thing that happens in the world. HENCE, The Associated Press or the International BBC, have a contract with these companies in order to provide them with News stories and content. This explains the reason why you may see the exact same article on CNN.com, ABC.com, MSNBC.com and so on.

Totally agree!!! Spinners only provide synonyms for words, but they can not rephrase a sentence, they do not think and they most definitely do not analyze grammatical mistakes. So, if you use a spinner, BY ALL MEANS read through the article and correct all of the things you find that do not make sense. Submitting an incoherent article will only make you look bad.

There is really nothing wrong with submitting the same article to multiple directories. However, I would change the title slightly and maybe some words here and there.

I don't think this is absolutely necessary, it is just something that I like to do with my articles.

I'd suggest spinning your articles before submitting them to multiple directories. That way you have more articles that are seen as unique so they get indexed.
