List building? Does it make sense in this case?

Hey
I'm promoting an offer with an own sales page, the buynow button forwards to the merchant where users have to opt-in.. so If they opt-in on my site to aweber (offering them discount news or something) they would have to opt-in again at the merchant..
that would be a bad user experience isn't it?
does it make sense to build a list here?

I don't wanna pay 29$ bucks a month for 500 subscribers which none converts anyway (but this is another issue)..

P.S. Or could an "on exit" opt-in form be good here? Can I disable that by exception i.e. if they exit by clicking on the buy-now button and go the the merchant they don't get the box?

Yes it could be a bad experience. But consider the alternative - if you have NO optin then you will lose a potential customer from your list.

The vast majority of people that come to your site will not buy. If there is no optin either then you have lost that visitor for good.

The best way to capture a visitor is ..... offer something they cannot refuse - a report, free gift, audio, video etc. Make it worth their while to trade their details for your offer. Your optins will be worth a thousand times the value of a few affiliate sales.
