Giveaway traffic - is it worth it?

Hey Warriors,

I'm contemplating joining a certain giveaway event, popular this time of year. I'm sure you know to which I am referring (Easter eggs and bunnies, hint-hint).

I joined the same event a couple of years ago, used Autoresponse Plus to capture leads. I built a list of 1,000 plus subscribers.

When I tried to email the list, I had no end of problems with the software that I couldn't get out a proper mailing to test the responsiveness of my leads and that's basically where I left it.

So, for anyone out there in cyberspace who has participated in giveaways, how responsive were your leads?, do they convert or were the majority of the emails throwaway addresses for the purpose of getting products?

Is it worth it?

Much thanks in advance,

Charann.

    Hey Charann

I have done the same. The time i have build my list i have given away a freebie as normal. BUT when it comes to get some sales you get lost... i mean when you send them freebies they will respond... i hve good clickrates but NO sales on the backend... so the queuestion is - Is this worth your time and work??

I´m working hard on this the last 3 month but...you know the end

    Cheers,

    Patrick

Try to give them something valuable and promise them more of the same quality stuff. Try to introduce yourself a little bit more and eventually give some kind of uniqueness.

When you do what other 100s in each of the giveaways do, the results won't be that good. Try to add something from you...

Giveaways tend to attract freebie seekers.

It's not impossible to sell them something, it's just harder.

When I first started building my lists I used giveaway events a lot and built a huge list fast. There were sporadic sales here and there but nothing to really amount to much. For the most part I find that lists built through giveaways are fairly untargeted and unresponsive. By that I mean with one list I've built with giveaways I'm lucky to see an open rate of 5% - 10% at best. With the lists I build through PPC and PPV I rarely ever see the open rates drop below 20%, usually they are 25% - 35%.

From what I've seen most of the giveaway leads use either a gmail or yahoo account that they never check after the initial freebie offer. IMO I think that leads from giveaways are on so many lists that they are burned out and blind to real offers of value.

I get extra sales by inserting an attractive One Time Offer after people sign up for my freebie. If you're participating in a Give Away event, you should always do this.

I guess that's where I made the mistake, I didn't offer an initial upsell.

Makes sense though, to qualify your prospects as soon as possible and to cultivate a list of buyers right from the start.

I'm still of two minds whether or not to participate, I'll have to weigh it up.

        Thanks for feedback.

If you're not doing this even with targeted signups you're losing tons of sales. In fact when it comes to giveaways this is about the only way to make sales to most of the signups as the leads for the most part use throwaway addresses that they only check initially to get your freebie offer.

I tried giveaways last year to build a list and got a lot of signups and no sales. I think most people are just freebie hunters and many even give you disposable email addresses so they never get your follow up messages.

If anyone has any tips on how to actually make giveaways effective then I'd love to hear them.

You have to get enough people to sign up to the giveaway under your affiliate link so that your product would show higher in the giveaway.

But, if you think it's a big enough giveaway and you have a great offer but you can't get signups then I'd recommend getting a premium subscription (or whatever they call it) and pay for your product to rank on the top.

EDIT: Keep one thing in mind though,

You can have a high unsubscription rate you need to make sure that you come up with a good offer and provide value if you will be paying for that top spot. You don't wanna lose those subscribers.

If you want your list to be responsive then you need a high quality product and you need to provide lots of value.

I have made good sells with traffic from giveaways even if 90% of these people are freebie seekers.

I just put a cheap offer on my Thankyou page, and there is where they are more likely to buy.

    Thanks,

If the target audience is slightly interested, then you will make sales, but obviously no where near as good as a primed, ready to purchase customer base.

Therefore - there is more effort in generating the same levels of profit.
