New YouTube Design....

Hi to all,
May be you don't know yet that YouTube just made a new design
at their web site. According to the news, this is the biggest
design change during the last 5 years
I was surprised to mention that couple hours ago and
couple my thoughts about it.

1. Simplicity... yes, everything came way simple and better.
2. Less advertising. As a user of youtube it is great step to reduce
advertising which came more and more annoying.
3. For video marketing... now your description is right under the video!!!
So, you need to input your URL to your blog or site in the first line.
I think this is also great.

So far... I do like new changes at Youtube and you can check by yourself these changes.

And what do you think about new design at Youtube?

Yeah looks a lot less cluttered than before shame they are removing the blog options.

I saw it today and I have to say I was really confused at first ... but I guess it takes time to get used to it just like when they changed it a few years ago.

    Definitely less cluttered tho.

I actually quite like it. Looks very AJAXy.

Love the new design but now I have to change all my videos as I had in the past put a big red arrow in the video telling people to click on my link which used to be in the top right hand column. It looks a bit stupid now! Just as well I just posted my first video. If I had had 100 of these things all with pointers to the wrong location fort my link, I would probably not ne too happy.

Hehe, yeah I can see where the new design does kind of screw the pooch on the arrow trick many marketers use. Myself I prefer to use the 20 - 30 second display of my URL at the end of the video, for me I think that works better.

Yes, some people have hundreds of videos that end with an arrow poiting to the description box link so it's either take weeks to go and change and re-upload or you could just add an annotaion at the end telling viewers that the link is now below the video. Not at all ideal but a much quicker workaround for those with hundreds of videos I guess.

There is one dumb thing about the change, it only shows one Related Video instead of four. As soon as some one else adds a response, there goes almost all those views, until you bump your video back up to the top.

As for the description, much better location!! Right in the viewers face!

And if you haven't noticed, look at your links in the description. Now when they get clicked, YouTube logs it!

Not totally true, they have a lot of related videos on the right hand side of the page of the video you're watching, which I think is better than going to the "related videos" section and then scrolling through that section

I've had to change a couple of my vid descriptions so that my site link shows up 'above the fold' as they no longer show up to the right.

I don't like the comments section now. I also liked the description on the right side, but then again I'm just not used to this yet. I don't like change!

Yeah Youtube switched it out with Like(thumbs up), and Dislike(thumbs down). They had like a big debate about it on their blog: youtube-global.blogspot.com/2009/09/five-stars-dominate-ratings.html

But personally IMO it kinda sucks cuz now you have to rate it before you know what others gave the video. And looking at the star rating before hand usually gives me an idea beforehand if I'm wasting my time or not.

But if I just took the time to make a youtube account I probably wouldn't be wining about the like/dislike system.:p

There is one thing that ticks me off though, perhaps it is a problem with my Firefox browser but if I set a playlist on autoplay and maximize the screen (when I lay down to watch a documentary), after each part, the view goes back to minimized or default resolution. Same thing does not happen if I use Chrome. Any suggestions?

I like the redesign. It's a lot cleaner visually and they did a good job at positioning the functional controls.

It will take about 2-3 weeks of regular viewing to get used to (for my eyes)

I notice that Insight is different. In Discovery, my embedded views are counted as viral. And none of the discovery types are clickable so you can drill down and see where traffic came from. Is this just me? -- Patey88

I was lucky enough to be involved with the beta since January and at first, I too, didn't like it but quickly got used to it and now really like it.

Also, I really like how the description is under the video and when your cursor goes over it, it highlights in a blue color so to get a person's attention, and hopefully click on your link.

Lastly, on the old format, when someone selected a video to be played in a larger format (480, 720), which is happening more and more, your description on the right side got lost, now with it directly under the video, I think it's in a better position to be noticed.

I really love the new youtube style.

A lot more user friendly but it did take a while to get used to.

Youtube has got to be the best example of evolution in any website to date.
