Wordpress Private Pages?

Hello Warriors,

I was just busy putting a new blog together and I am at the process of adding the Privacy Policy. The blog is a Wordpress theme that was free and is now heavily customized.

I want to add the Privacy Policy, but I do not want a link to the Privacy Policy on the top row of links and on the pages widget, I only want to have one link to the Privacy Policy page, which will be in the footer.

So I changed the Privacy Policy to private and then it was gone from the widget and pages row, but I can still visit it.

My question is that if I set the Privacy Policy page to Private will I be blocking the search engines? If I am blocking the search engines then this is not the solution?

So the question is, what do the private pages do? Do they have search engine crawling ability? What is your points or suggestions please?

If it is set to "private", no one can see it without being logged in (like you as admin).
You need to make it public.

To remove it from your sidebar and nav bar, you can either use a plugin to do this or just edit the code in your theme to exclude the paged id# of the privacy policy page.

Thank you for this, I can view the page even though it is set to private.

I cannot find the page ID because I am using the %postname% setting for the perma links. How can I find the page id? Or even better what plug in do you recommend to do this for me?

I found a plug in that I have tested and it seems to work, check it out here:

Just upload the privacy page as it's own page (don't create it in 'pages') and then place the link to it wherever you want on your site (footer, sidebar, whatever)
