BuddyPress on WordPress

Hello
Does BuddyPress still needs WordPress MU or can we now install it on regular Wordpress. I learned somewhere that their new version will be able to work on regular wordpress. I am not sure if that version has arrived yet.
Thanks and regards
Zm

    BuddyPress.org – WordPress Social Network Software → Requirements

    Wp and WPMU.

    I think there are more options for the MU part though.

    StudioPress now has some of their themes BuddyPress ready, so I am about to jump in and start "experimenting".

    I just read a little more and it seems the only difference with the WP and WPMU is the abilty to add/create additional blogs on the site (The typical MU difference), but the BuddyPress features are the same.

    BuddyPress.org → Forums → Does Buddypress work exactly the same way with wp?

    Nice!

    Yes beginning in version 2.9 (earlier this year) Buddypress can now be installed on ANY wordpress site. WPMU will disappear in a month or two as all wordpress sites will have the capability of doing multiple blogs from a single installation.

    Thing with buddypress is it needs a bit of tweaking (which I am now in the process of doing for three sites) so that it is a bit more intuitive for people (and so the theme looks consistent across the entire site.)

    I'm already into wordpress 3.0 (alpha) as part of a series of tests. Thats where the code base of WPMU and Wordpress will merge. Its also the version where custom post types will be introduced which if you are not into theme development like I have been means that Wordpress is making a further step into being a full fledged CMS and begin to break away from its blog centric code base. So even free themes will begin to look very different in a few months.

    Big changes with some major implications for IM and SEO.

      Hello:

      Version 3.0 WordPress Codex is the page which lists the enhancements and fixes coming in WordPress 3.0 which is due to be released next month.

      Here are a few quotes from the page:

      "■Bulk theme update ability
      ■Standalone WordPress and WPMU code merged (Note: extra domain stuff remains plugin territory for this version)
      ■Configure a Network (multisite/WPMU) using wp-config.php file"

      "■New wp_login_form() provides a simple login form for use anywhere"

      "■Move Tools->Upgrade menu option to Dashboard->Updates and overhaul of user interface so themes, plugins, and core upgrades under one panel"

      "■Change to comments UI to show when a comment is replying to another, and link to the parent comment"

      "■Allow the Tag Cloud Widget to support non-tag taxonomies"

      "■Upgrade plugins in bulk from the Plugins->Installed panel (#11542)"

      "■Choose username and password during installation rather than using 'admin'
      ■Show "Log In" button on install.php when "Already Installed"
      ■Automatic generation of Security Keys during installation"

      ■New Tools->Network panel to 'install' mulitsite/network ability, and is available only if WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE is defined in wp-config.php
      ■New Super Admin menu with Admin, Sites, Users, Themes, Options, Update, sub-menus (available only if is_multisite() && is_super_admin() )
      ■New Dashboard->My Sites panel
      ■New Tools->Delete Site panel" "

      ...and lots more. Warning: It is still in beta, so there may still be some changes before it is released.
