Creating a free eBook! Seeking advice

Hello, all!

I am putting together a self-written eBook on the topic of my niche / keyword. I am 2,500 words and about 15 pages into it!

I am going to offer it as a free download in exchange for name/e-mail address. (Hoping to use the list for future affiliate sales, and also to advertise the premium version of the free eBook for sale.)

1) Is ~2,500 words an adequate amount for a free eBook?
2) Has the free eBook route worked for many for building a list?
3) Is there a way to have a user fill in their e-mail/name and then offer a download link?
4) Are there any websites that will host my eBook for download?
5) If this has been covered in another thread/website (I searched) please link to it?

Thanks so much!

    Hey Jaspry,

    1) Is ~2,500 words an adequate amount for a free eBook?

More like a report, but it will do as long as the info is good.

    2) Has the free eBook route worked for many for building a list?

    Since the beginning of IM

    3) Is there a way to have a user fill in their e-mail/name and then offer a download link?

    Autoresponder.
    Aweber or Getresponse

    4) Are there any websites that will host my eBook for download?

    Your own.

That's the best I can do here.
I'll find an ebook explaining it all for you and send you the link.

    I forgot to mention traffic.

You need to create a squeeze page and get traffic to it.

    1) Anything is acceptable for a free eBook. It all depends how much content you put to each page.

    2) I think that you might be able to build a substantial email list...as long as people want your eBook.

    3) Yes. You would have to use HTML. I would make a link to a website...then once they completed the form entry send them to the download link.

    4) I always upload mine to other domains that I currently have. If you do not own any...there are tons of sites that can host it. Just google it.

    5) I am not sure.

      Thanks for your replies!

The eBook is in the weight loss industry with a method/program of my own creation =) I am offering the first half for free (which in itself could help one lose weight!)

There's no graphics or anything taking up too much space. When finished it'll be 14-18 pages of pure information.

Would a "squeeze page" be something like mydomain.com/free-ebook/ ? On that page I would have the basic eBook overview and then the place to put name and e-mail?

I am thinking of sending them an e-mail w/ the download link in the e-mail. That way it prevents them from putting johndoe@abcdef.com... would this Autoresponder program be able to send them such an e-mail?

Yes I think that would work fine. Also you can give your ebook away here on the make money section if you didn't know that already.

It's not a make money eBook so I don't think people here would benefit from it unless of course they're trying to lose weight

I'm thinking of putting a longer non-free version up on ClickBank to sell... I'm very new to internet marketting, though I've been writing and making web pages for over 10 years! I can provide quality content/products but have no idea how to distribute them! I wish I had a mentor!

Graphics can be a good thing.

You need to subscribe to an autoresponder service such as Aweber or Getresponse.

        You create a "list".
You create an opt-in form to capture your visitors name and email.

They will give you a snippet of code to put on your squeeze page that generates the form.

You then create your "Thank You" message that includes the download link.
Generally, it's best to create a download page that you send your opt-ins to where they click a link for the download.

They have video tutorials that will explain the entire process.

Be sure to convert the ebook to PDF format.
Just Google "PDF convertor. There are many good free ones.

Once your visitors have subscribed you can email them via your autoresponder with other offers.

A lot easier than I anticipated. Thanks!

You can host it for free at a place like keep and share and use an autoresponder to send people the link once they send an email. I have done this to build a list. If you go to my site you can see an ebook I host there. I am not currently making people sign up for a list as I am going into another niche, but you will be able to see how it comes up in K & S. Good luck
