Just a thought:

I don't trust exe files because you can get viruses, they can harm your PC, delete files, etc. And I think there are lots like me, so I don't recommend distributing a book in this format.

Again, just a thought

Here's a free one that was recommended but I haven't yet tried it WebSiteZip Packer - Free Html to Exe, Ebook Compiler, E-book Publisher, Ebook Creator/Generator Software</font>

Or just do a search for "html compiler"

I think the paid version of winzip.com creates self extracting files as well.

I asked a very similar question in another forum a week ago and got this answer, which you might find helpful:-

Quote:
Hi Alexa,

Have you heard of this site: Almisco ?

There is a comparative review of 11 different products (including the one you asked about). They provide quite a detailed analysis of all the products, according to about 40 different parameters, on a big chart, and it looks pretty interesting.

You have to give your email address to get access to the review. I think it's like so many "review sites", they have their own affiliate links to every reviewed product and of course that's how they make their money.

But if you don't mind that, there's probably quite a lot to learn there.

Of course, there may also be many other good products not reviewed there at all.

My own quick findings from their review:-

1. Most of them produce "exe" files, rather than PDF.

2. The only ones which produce ebooks readable on a Mac are Adobe 9.0 (and maybe Adobe 8.0) which, for myself, I would not fancy at all (and I hate Adobe's website too), which costs $299, and a cheapie called "writercash" which is only $27 (!!) but has many features missing which are present in the more expensive products.

Having had a quick look at all the sales bits of the websites of these product manufacturers, I must say that to me the one you've asked about, "e-book pro 6.0" looks by far the best and is the one I'd be interested in myself. It also appears to be the only one with email, phone and live online chat support available (for me that would be a big factor), and for just under $200 it seems to offer more than most of them. Their sales page impressed me, too.

Have a look round, though: there will doubtless be other review sites like that with more products listed, too.

Alexa Smith ...

I used this one before I switched to doing them in PDF format. Sunil is a fellow Warrior as well. eBook Compiler Software: create your own eBooks

I tried a bunch of the others before settling on this one!
