Do I sell this or keep it?

Hi all,

I've had this site, profitpiggy.com (pr2) up and running since April 2004. It's always been a real estate investing site, but I've never really put that much time into it. All content on the site is original, with the exception of some articles, and all traffic is organic.

I really don't have the time needed to turn this site into a decent money maker. It has affiliate links in it, and also some adsense, but traffic is low (about 25/day), but the potential here is huge to monetize it.

I'm also curious as to how much the domain is worth as part of the package - profitpiggy.com could be used for anything money-related, and not just real estate investing.

What are your thoughts? Do you think it could sell for more than a couple hundred bucks?

Thanks!

I don't think the domain name is worth much.
How much is the site making per month? You can generally get 12-36 times the monthly income. So it's probably worth you while to get that income up higher even if it's just for a month or two and then sell it.

The fact that the site looks good and is a PR2 will both increase the value of the site, but nothing is more important than the money it brings in.

    Hi Adam,

    What's it worth?

Well... I take it no-one's come knocking?

    ...there's your answer.

Build the site up, the name has potential, but you MUST make it valuable....yourself

      What Steve said!

I really like the name, and if I wasn't doing much, or felt that I could develop it myself, then I'd probably send you an offer. There are many SIMPLE things that could probably be done, and it would improve the site a lot!

      Thanks

Some would say way too many ads.. Also design is not up to par.. If you are going to use a Piggy as a mascot then you need to build a professional theme around that mascot.

Currently the domain name really means nothing at all as Steven said you need to make the name valuable by branding it.

      Adam,

Never underestimate the value of a site that has been live for that long.

Last year I took one of the many sites I've had for years and completely revamped it. It succeeded more than I expected it would. The back links still point to the site but it sells something completely different than what the site was originally about.

Clicking on the backlinks will only disappoint someone doing that, but the search engines still give those juice. On average this site gets over 90 visitors a day from the SERPs. A good day will yield over 120 visitors. That's up from almost nothing a year ago.

I scrapped the entire site and added completely new content. I did my best to SEO that site and it works. It now produces between $1800 on a bad month to $4200 on a good month in gross sales.

Depending on your off-page SEO this site could become profitable for either you or someone who knows the value of an aged site.

Selling it for $200? Well heck, PM me, I'm all ears.

Thanks for the feedback Joe, and everyone else.

I'd love to see this site turn into a regular money maker, and I think the name gives me some flexibility as far as content. The real estate investing niche hasn't been too kind to me, but like I said I never really spent that much time promoting the site or adding new content. With my time being as limited as it is these days I'm not above outsourcing all of this, but I'd need some advice on who to hire for these services.

Also, do you think switching the site to focus on another niche would be beneficial? I'm loath to venture into the IM niche for obvious reasons, but I'm really starting to think that trying something other than real estate investing is the way to go.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions you send my way
