Which site editor software?

Hi there, 1st post

My wife wants to have built (or have me build) a website which she can run herself and I need to find the right software.
She has always had a passion for cooking and wants to have a website where other like minded people can share recipes, ideas etc.

The most important criteria are that it is social media friendly, that can be integrated with twitter, you tube, digg etc.
We want to make sure that it is easy to set up and modify on a regular basis.
She also wants at some stage to add affiliate product pages.

I have a couple of websites which use joomla software which we both use to alter content occasionally, I also have some software called "xsitepro" which is designed for internet marketing but I read on another forum that it is awkward to set up for social media use.

So, does anyone have any suggestions as to which software, website editor would be best for the job?

Many thanks

Steve

you're best bet is probably to look for a social media script with good back-end management. I've looked into this before so I'll dig out my research and point you in the right direction.

XsitePro is not designed for interactive sites.

For what you want, I would go with Drupal. You'll lose
hair learning it, but it's stable, scalable and secure.

Joomla has a lot of fans but also security problems.

Wordpress is versatile but of dubious viability for a scalable
website with lots of user blogs and things like that.

      This is changing... rapidly.

Drupal and Joomla are both really flexible, powerful and scale out massively. And I haven't touched either in more than a year.

Why? Because WP has gotten so much better and the 3rd party adoption of the platform has become so ubiquitous.

The next version of WP will incorporate the WPMU multi-user architecture and with a few key plug-ins, you can easily create a vibrant social community within Wordpress right now.

Believe me, there's things that drive me batty with WP and it can be a hog on a shared server if the community gets busy.

      Such is the Internet, right?

It's free. It connects with the entire social space and it's easy for newbs to build out sites that they'd never be able to interconnect in static html the way a WP site does.

I sound like I'm piking WP... I guess I am, in a way.

I guess I just can't see why some getting started with building websites would start off working in static HTML anymore...

Wordpress without a shadow of a doubt!

Its very easy to use, very intuitive and I think the best thing sinced sliced bread! NO programming or HTML involved!

    Good luck!

I have to agree with AnniePot & BrianMcLeod, WordPress will save you a ton of headaches, give you ultimate flexibility with easy management, and your site can have a great look to boot!

Seems like WP for any site, but... Include a forum for social interaction other than just comments. The SEs love it. I prefer IPB but Vbulletin is the most popular (and most easily compromised.)

Absolutely self-hosted Wordpress. The number of plugins & functionality has expanded dramatically over the last few years, so she should be able to do all of the interactive things she wants to do for a cooking website. Drupal and Joomla would both be well-suited to this kind of site as well, but unless she's an experienced web manager, the amount of time required to learn and understand them will likely turn her off of the idea altogether.
