General techniques for making money (passive income) on the internet?

Hi,

I am very new, and I want to try making money (passive income) on the internet.
But I want to pick a general technique to focus my energy on.

So far, I know about:
  • Write an ebook, and sell it.
  • Make a popular webpage, and sell the site on flippa.com.
  • Affiliate marketing: Promote someone else's product.
What are there other general categories of techniques for making money on the internet?

    1 or 2

I know not the question, but as a rule I don't pay very good attention

A common question, and one which you will find
many answers to already in the forum (so I won't
go into detail what you can do)...but I can tell
    you from personal experience...

Building a list should be the number one goal of
ANY entrepreneur (online OR off), and the most
successful entreprenerus are those who have
    names, emails, addresses, and contacts.

Learn more about how to build a list before any
thing else. That's where the passive (residual)
    income lies.

Other than that, try using the "search" button
on the top right corner of this forum

      Agreed.

This is very powerful as you're not having to constantly find people who want to buy. You've already got a list of potential or actual customers.

One thing I would add to Benjamin's point is that you may want to focus on building a list of buyers rather than a list of potential buyers (also known as freebie seekers). I would much rather have a list of 200 people who are buyers rather than 20,000 freebie seekers.

One of the best ways to create this type of list is to do a low priced WSO (Warrior Special Offer). It sounds counter-intuitive, but focus on giving them a lot of great value for, say, $7 (rather than focusing on the money you can make).

As my friend AJ would say, let them feel like they're taking you for a ride.

You'll get them onto your list as people who have bought from you already. As you give them more value, they'll trust you more and want to buy more from you.

      Hope that helps.

Oh, one last thing I forgot:

Be very wary of the idea of a 'passive income'. Don't confuse this with an 'easy' income or a 'do nothing and still earn shedloads' income.

Internet Marketing is a lot more straightforward than most jobs, but it does require you to learn a lot and take massive action to make it work consistently.

That said, you can put in consistent effort over time and have a million dollar business in a lot less time than you think.

        Enjoy the ride!

I completely agree with this. It has been said, "the gold is in the list." So true, so true. You can have the greatest product or service but without people who are interested in it, makes no difference.

Building a list of targeted buyers is one of the best ways to make money online.

      First, identify your market.
Determine where they "hang out" - what forums, what social networks, etc.
Write articles tied into the area you are focusing on with your products and services
      Blog
      Guest blog
      Develop "ethical bribes"
Drive traffic to the landing page for the ethical bribes
Create ongoing value for your opt in subscribers
Start with a low risk product - it's difficult to have buyers jump into a high priced product or service until you have gained their trust.
Be a resource before you are a vendor
      Enjoy
      Manage frustration
      Be consistent
      Stick with it
      Hang out with the winners

The Internet is an amazing way to make a great living, but as has been said, it does take work. Anyone who says you don't have to work at this is blowing smoke and should be avoided.

Listen to those who have "been there, done that"

      Good luck.

For someone new to making money online, bum marketing techniques are usually a good way to start. They don't require much investment and pretty much anyone can do them. Just Google 'bum marketing' for more info.

I don't think that making a site and selling it on Flippa is passive income. Once you sell the site, you have to make another one to get more income.

I think either the first or third option would be better for passive income - assuming that you want the income to keep coming in (that's what I think of when I think passive - do the work once and then receive the income for years later)

However, I think more that either of those, you have to have a long range plan for sustainable passive income.

Building a list is a good way to do that but you also have to build a list around something where you can sell people new stuff again and again. That's why weight loss is so popular because people will buy weight loss product after weight loss product after weight loss product (and still never lose any weight).

On the other hand, I would think something like yeast infection or penis enlargement wouldn't be ideal for long term passive income because once their infection is cleared up or their penises are large what more could you sell them?

Just my thoughts, I actually haven't tested those two markets so I could be way off on that!

You are right about focusing. Do not spread yourself too thin. Find something that you can be passionate about and stick with it.

First things first, begin building a list. Every successful internet marketer that I know has a good list of people to sell to. Those are the people you hear about making over $10,000 a month.

If I had a time machine, I would go back to my first day of internet marketing and started building a list...

Something that messes a lot of people up in the beginning is information overload.

They buy ten products and try ten things at once. They never divert enough energy to one project so they end up with 10 poorly performing streams of income.

Pick one (list building or something else that has a proven track record) and stick with it for a good few months

Try number 3, affiliate marketing, if you can find a good 'lifetime commision' they usually pay out every month for as long as the customer stays subscribed. Some subscriptions are better than others.

I.E an info product may only last 3 or four months before there's not much more to be gained by staying subscribed and it is cancelled. A vitamin supplement may be used for years as you need to keep taking it to gain the benefit.

I read somewhere that you'll get about 30% of purchasers continuing their subscription beyond the 1st month.

These are generalisations and not to be taken as fact. Only a guide.
