Help Create an IM Terminology Dictionary

Hey there.

As a relative newbie, trying to help other newbies while I learn, I notice in a lot of posts newbies asking what different terms mean. In one post I saw a discussion explaining that you need backlinks and how important they are etc etc - true - BUT the next post from the newbie was "what is a backlink", so all the advice was lost as no-one had explained what a backlink is, before advising how important it is to get them.

I think as we progress with our learning we forget exactly what information is needed by newbies to help them. I remember trying to figure out exactly what was meant by "niche" and how it related in IM terms. Another one was JV - so does that mean that I can only be successful if I have a JV - is that what I have to - what does it mean, where do I buy one? Long tail keyword - what the hell is that? Drill down - huh? What exactly is Web2.0 & what happened to Web1.9?? I'm sure you're getting the idea.

The information is getting soooo much better for newbies now than it was when I started "researching" IM ("researching" is my personal term for "I'm paralised with fear so I'll just buy another e'book, program, miracle get rich overnight something!), but we need to take it a step further.

So- here's what I want to do - & it'd be great to get some help with this one (as I'm still technically a newbie) - I want an indepth e-ctionary or an IM-tionary (I just made that up - d'ya like it??). Specifically for newbies in mind.

Let me know your term and your newbie-proof definition. Feel free to add to someone elses definitions too. Let's not forget the most basic terms - I'd like to make this a comprehensive e-tionary.

Newbies - let us know the word/s or term/s you had or have trouble with - please don't hold back - there are no silly questions here.

I'll compile these and create a full report. I know it'll be a valuable resource Newbies.

Here's a couple to start with - feel free to expand on them or correct me if I'm wrong, or even if you can say it clearer!

*IM'er - Internet Marketer, a person who makes their living creating or promoting websites or products on the internet.

*Newbie - someone who is new, has little or no experience in a subject. Someone who should be encouraged to learn and progress until they have reached their individual success level.

*IM Newbie - In terms of Internet Marketing a newbie is someone who is learning to become an internet marketer, to make their living from selling or promoting products, either theirs or someone elses, on the internet.

I know - there are heaps - have you looked at them from a newbies point of view?

      That's what I'm looking for.

I also notice that the domain etionary.com is taken so obviously I didn't just make that term up - see I'm learning all the time haha.
