"Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." - George Santayana
The other day I was giving a second read through a book called "A History of Knowledge" by Charles Van Doren and then that George Santayana quote came to mind "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
I find this to be very true and here is how it applies to IM.
How many times have world leaders or ancient civilization emperors for that matter repeat mistakes that had already happened in the course of history and cost them an empire?
How many times have you seen entrepreneurs or businessmen repeat the same mistakes that have already been made before?
I cannot stress enough the importance of learning from your own mistakes and others too, especially in IM. My modest knowledge of history has taught me this and a very basic principle that you should all follow.
Take action, make all the mistakes you possibly can, while at the same time avoid some mistakes you have seen others do, learn from them and move on.
People are so afraid to take action because of the potential mistakes they could make they don't even try, they spend fortunes in supposed learning and never do anything with the knowledge they have gained. While learning is important, it is part of the action process. I learn more in one month of IM's hard work than I have in over 2 years of studying business in college.
Trust me when I say, action is part of the learning process and you should study during that process but you need to take action on the knowledge gained. Who gives a flying **** if you make mistakes, EVERYONE DOES, no one is perfect. The difference between those who make mistakes and those who don't is that those who do become succesful meanwhile those who don't sit there forever hoping, wishing and praying for success without ever attaining it.
This brings me to another quote by Charles Dubois:
"The important thing is this: To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become."
