paypal is requiring account for credit card payment

I am testing the checkout of a site and wanted to test out Paypal's credit card checkout.

I mean the supposedly credit card checkout where you are not required to have an account.

Well, I have yet to be able to checkout without setting up an account.

Anyone else test this out?

I go through the checkout and Paypal is telling me they want a password to create an account and I can't go any further with the checkout process until I create an account.

I thought Paypal was suppose to allow people to purchase product or services without an account?

Are you using a credit card which is already on their system? I have that problem if I use my card but if I use my bro's card, I can pay without an account.

No, the credit card has not been added. It is asking me to create an account when trying to check out. It wouldn't even allow me to get that far if either my email or credit card was already associated to a paypal account.

Are you logged in when you start the transaction?

Nope, I wanted to test the credit card purchase for someone who didn't want to create a paypal account.

Clear your cookies and try again. Paypal does this if you've logged in from that PC before and the cookie is on your machine.

Nope, I cleared all cookies and it is still requiring me to input a password to create a paypal account prior to finishing the transaction.

The first part makes it look like it will allow a transaction until you click the continue button and it requires a password in order to create a new paypal account.

Can you click past the password option (leaving it empty) to complete the transaction? Or does it error out?

I'm wondering if it's a pressure tactic to create an account.

No, it will just say that the password field is mandatory. There is only a continue button. Dang those bturds.

Duh! Thanks Greg. I forgot it was a recurring payment which makes sense. I was wracking my brains on this one.

I will just use this as a plus for the site.

    Try this:

Go to: PROFILE (in your paypal account) then go to WEBSITE PAYMENTS PREFERENCES and make sure "PayPal Account Optional" is on.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers!
