Advice for web 2.0 sites

Hi Everyone, I'm Cindy and I've been lurking and reading here for some time.

I am hoping somebody with more experience than I have could give me some advice on how to use web 2.0 sites/blogs that I created. Here's what happened:

I was making an attempt at using Web 2.0 sites for marketing and got myself confused by "too much information." I had in mind doing a sort of linking network. I have created about 6 sites using my own name. I have each site linking to either one of the other sites or my main site advertising my ebooks (that I wrote). I was thinking this would help to build traffic and "brand" myself as an expert in my field.

I started using UAW and Link Juicer to direct traffic to my main site and some of these web 2.0 properties. Then I got massively confused.

I read that doing this - using my real name and similar keywords - may actually get me penalized or at the very least not do any good to help with my marketing plan. If this is true - then I do not want to put more time into them.

My goal is that I would like to get my ebooks selling (more steadily) before I create a new sales page and invite affiliates.

I am reading way too many ways to build traffic and create a brand so I was wondering if anyone can help me or advise me about this. Bottom line - can I use these web 2.0 sites that I already built to get this going or do I really have to create a net of "pen name" sites to do this more effectively?

Any help would be really, really appreciated. Thanks.

The goal of this method is simply to get more links back to your site. I think you're thinking about it too much. If you create a "network" of these sites, you may be able to achieve even better results; but you also may be flagged as a "spam network" or a "link wheel", both of which will hinder the effectiveness in the search results.

I highly recommend being "unpredictable" in how you build your network - sometimes have your web 2.0 presences link to each other, other ones only link to some, other ones link to none: keep it random, keep it pattern free.

Toss up a number of these sites, submit them to RSS directories, build a few links back to them so they rank for their long tail keywords and perhaps send direct traffic back to your money site. This is a great method if you put some effort in to it.

Hope that helps you out a bit?

    - Oscar.

You have "my number" so to speak. I do over-think everything. Just pointing that out helped me immensely. And the rest of your post did, too. I really appreciate it.

Just one more thing as I consider your answer... I have more than one post (like 3 or 4) on the blogs like blogspot, vox, and livejournal. Each post links randomly to either the main site or my other web 2.0 sites. I write unique content for each (since it no longer takes me too long to write an article) but do use similar keywords and anchor text.

Since these have my name, should I just continue to add to these then build other sites with anonymous names and add those to the network? Or should I just leave alone the ones with my name for now and build all new ones, some with my name and some without?

      Thanks, again...

I think part of the answer in regard to over thinking is to start doing a wider variety of things online. It's harder to obsess over one site, when you have others to worry about as well.

That being said, yes I'd publish under a myriad of different names, just like you should be creating profile links with different names as well

Thanks for that. I do realize that I need to incorporate a wider variety - just didn't know where to start. So, with this advice I'll start publishing under other names. thanks.

BTW, by profile links - do you mean the various profiles associated with the new sites/blogs? thanks
