Does it Matter What You WRITE about...

It sure does -

3 - different expert authors on EzineArticles:

Author 1: 101 live articles - 50,000 views writes mostly in the make money from home market.

Author 2: 33 live articles - 125,000 views writes about movies mostly.

Author 3: 39 live articles - over 250,000 views (I'm author #3) -

Which authors do you think are using their time more wisely?

Research your niches / topics beforehand - do the upfront work and verify that people are interested in what you're writing about.

Search EZA categories and see which articles are the most popular & most published - this will give you an idea of what people want to read about - what they're interested in...

Don't spin your wheels in your Internet Marketing venture - spend some time researching.

You'll know if you're on a hot topic after just a few articles, if after 100 like author #1 and you only have 50,000 views I'd start to wonder if it's worth the time & effort.

Just some food for thought!

Jeff

What you are giving me as facts does not tell the story I'm interested in.

Which one of your is converting to a higher number of dollars?

If his 50,000 views had a 30% CTR, and drove them to a site which sold a product for $100, with a 2% conversion rate, he would have made $30,000.

If your 250,000 views had a 15% CTR, and drove them to an affiliate product you are promoting which pays you $6 for each sale and you also had a 2% conversion rate, you made $4,500.

Now, ask the question again...Who invested his time most efficiently?

Your point is well taken, great research is important. Writing what people want to read is critical. But the conclusion you reached could be accurate, or could be fatally flawed depending on all the rest of the equation.

I agree with KD. It all depends on how much each author is making on with their particular niche. This game is not so much about clicks but how much money is made with the click you do get.

      Good points KD!

You are so true on the conclusion reached being accurate or flawed - I thought of that when posting - there are other factors involved in IM / Article Marketing than just views, ctr, etc.

It goes back to the point of researching, testing, and determining where the payoff is. I know with my own IM efforts that it's paying off each month - nothing big, but it's something each and every month, almost on auto-pilot.

Now, the point for me is to figure out how to get the most bang out of the views, CTR's, & conversions.

Just to also throw another thing in... I would much rather have 50k views in the IM niche because of the potential opposed to having an article written about some obscure things which have no chance of residual income.

And what about writing what you want to write, rather than what you think other people want to read?

It may not be what you're writing about but your choice of keywords and your seo skills maybe that's where you're superior and not in topic selection.

maybe if you told us your niche we could judge for ourselves.

Also remember that a lot of "article marketers" know how to "game" the system to artificially increase their view counts. It is still good to do the research, but as mentioned the bigger components are the click throughs and the income.
