The Internet in 5 Years....

As the Internet and thus IM is only 20 years old
its a bit crazy to think were it will be in 5 years

I think Google is Monopolizing the web. It has many
great tools that are free. I use daily,

- Search
- Optimizer
- Analytics
- Adwords
- Reader
- Adsence
- Webmaster
- Insights
- Keyword Tool
- FeedBurner
- YouTube

Google has fantastic viral marketing in place
and I can only see more domination in the
years to come. But I truly think IM is a great
place to be right now. Keep Blasting Away!

Have any predictions?

5 years is way too long to be able to make any predictions. Twitter wasn't around 3 years ago - in 5 years anything could be happening based on technology that is created between now and then.

I'm absolutely sure that in 5 years Google will own the internet, and will be able to take bragging rights away from Al Gore for "recreating it."

But seriously...Google will probably become part of the government so they can keep tabs on everybody's every move on the net, since Google already knows that stuff anyway =)

5 years is a long time on the net, it will definitely be interesting to see it all unfold.

I totally agree... it's hard to predict how the internet will change in a few months let alone 5 years.

The truth about IM is that the same basic stuff has worked for several years and will continue to work - ex. list building, affiliate marketing, article marketing...

I am pretty sure that in the (not that far off) future many of the so called web2.0 sites will be centralized, and i would NOT be surprised if Google will play a BIG role there.

Right now, to be honest, the number of web2.0 social etc. sites is just a crazy mess. In the future i can see this all happening from one central HUB (Google OS maybe)..of course this would mean even bigger Google domination.

A bunch of new buzzwords that don't mean anything and everyone will think something has been revolutionised - probably Web 37.0 or something.

    Hello,
I think social networking will still be a very big thing in the next five years and on.
I have a major launch coming up soon in this field myself.

Who knows, maybe Google will get so big that it will "broken up" like AT&T was in the 1980s.

Or, maybe nobody will care about Google anymore.

Or, maybe the Internet will be embedded in every type of media instead of having media embedded in it.

Or, maybe the Internet will become a sentient being and enslave the human race.

Ok, just kidding, I think that last one is already in progress!

Yeah, 5 years is way too long to make any kind of reasonable prediction. But chances are that it will evolve, as opposed to changing overnight. So, while it may be fun to play the "what if" game, it's more productive to keep an eye on what's happening RIGHT NOW and how that could be impacting your business.

    All the best,
    Michael

I think that we'll see a true, seamless video/TV/mobile/internet platform and devices that blend it all together, and be locationless.

I don't have an iPad, but from what I have read and seen, it's bringing this one step closer -- all happening WAY sooner than 5 years. Google could easily be a big player from both a hardware and software aspect.

All I know is that the Internet BETTER still be around.

How else are we going to be able to handle all the flying cars?

The problem is that we typically try to guess based on the way things are now and what we know now.

However, all of that can be thrown out the window if someone comes up with a new paradigm that makes a significant change in the way things are done.

We can make educated guesses about what will happen. We can guess that we'll have faster access and that more people will have access or greatly improved access to the Internet. We can guess that maybe faster and better access will have an impact on the broadcast model of television--that we'll have fewer but bigger broadcast events and more entertainment will be on-demand as opposed to scheduled.

We can guess those things based on what we know now, what we have now and what we'd like now. However, what we cannot guess is what the new paradigms may be.

And those paradigms are the things that generally have the biggest impact and move things in completely different directions than we may have predicted.
