What link cloaking tool do you use?

Are there multiples out there? Which one is your favorite, and why? Or do you not use one at all?

I should mention, I use a Free Link Cloaker that I found on this site a long time ago. I wouldn't say it's very full featured, but it accomplishes the basic task and it's free.

I am extremely biased. I offer PHP Link Cloaker in my sig. It's web-based, uses a secure MySQL database and has saved my butt once when I sent out a newsletter with the wrong link!

Basically, you buy it and install it on all of your sites. There's a demo if you want to check it out at the website.

      Hi,

For my cloaking I usually use Web Army Knife.

I like the way it keeps the URL in
the address the same, it doesn't
change over to the real link!

I'm still using free methods to do it. There so many ways that many do not realize..

I also use my own link cloaking software not web based but desktop. It creates the cloaked link as a html instead of php page. Just uploaded it to my server and direct the traffic there.

Like blue squares if i mess up the link it can easily be corrected as i have instant access through my FTP account. Using another website to host your cloaked links you do not have that option especially if you send it in an e-mail.

I also use Andy Fletcher's Free Link Cloaker and Teli Adlam's Simple Link Manager. The SLM Wordpress plugin is my favorite.

I use the simplest one I found.

it is built in in your cpanel, it is the redirect feature.

You simply input a subdirectory in the first field and
the affiliate link in the second one.
You even don't have to create the directory on your
site, it will work loading the final URL of the affiliate site.

            cheers,

            Gian L.

I use Ninja Link Cloaker and find it good. You can probably do the same thing for free but this makes it very quick and easy.

                  Hi Andy,

Since you're reading this can I make a few feature requests ?

                  1) Editing an existing cloaked link
                  2) Deleting an existing cloaked link
                  3) Ability to modify the viewed count

I can do these by editing the database, but it would be much simpler if the script supported these.

Thanks once again for an awesome free piece of software !

                  Regards,
                  Mario

I'd definitely love to improve FLC at some point and these are definitely the #1 requested features but I'm super busy with lots of stuff so I can't make any promises.

I use Mike Filsaime's Power Link Generator and cPanel. I use subdomains redirected to the affiliate link. I don't cloak links because I sometimes feel like the cookies might get lost in the process. That is why I haven't been using ViralURL.com as much. It cloaks the link and doesn't give you the option to just forward the link.

                    Reasons why we cloak links:-

                    • To protect our affiliate sales.
                    • To take those long ugly affiliate url's and shorten them ever seen a rover link.
                    • Link tracking.
                    • Protect from search bots by including a no follow.
                    • Stops the view source method of reveling affiliate links.
Anyone else thing of some more...

So, to use this cloaker, I need to provide you with my name, email address, domain name, ftp username, and ftp password.

Hmmm.... just doesn't sound to kosher to me. :-)

I understand why you would be leery but Michael Silvester is a straight up guy. I tested his script a few weeks ago and you get emailed your cloaked link thus the email field. I didn't get any junk or anything else. Slick setup.

Thanks guys. In business (whether online or offline), it's hard to know who can be trusted. I appreciate your endorsement of Michael.

Andy, I do have yours, which I've been trying all day to get working (even following the video link you posted). It looks like a great program, but my file manager is not cooperating. After setting everything up, when I try to install linkcloaker, I keep getting a message saying "Unable to connect to database." I've even started from scratch with several sql databases, still no luck. My hosting is with godaddy, and I can't seem to find the cpanel on their site. :-(

Any suggestions would be appreciated, otherwise I may have to go with the Australian competition! ;-)

GoDaddy is tough. The use a stripped down cPanel of some kind. Anyways, make sure your hostname is correct (I don't think it's the typical "localhost" with GoDaddy), and check to make sure your database name is correct. They will always prefix it with something like brian_linkcloaker.

I will also go ahead and shamelessly plug my signature / link cloaker.

First, please format your sig properly.

Second, I use Adtrackz which is a paid software. It tracks my links and also cloaks them for me. Feel free to PM me if you need a link.
