This Might Sound Crazy But Has Anyone Ever Banned AOL E-mail Addresses From Opting Into Your List?

Hey,

Most people nowadays have at least 2 if not 3 email addresses. I was wondering what the effect would be if on your opt-in form you said that you weren't accepting AOL e-mail addresses?

Would the people leave? Or would they just use another e-mail address?

At first I can see how a lot of people would think this is a terrible idea because I would be losing out on subscribers.

But...

It would cut down on SPAM complaints

and...

Probably 75% of the AOL subscribers or soon to be subscribers would just use one of their other e-mail addresses.

In the end I guess it comes down to testing. Is this something you would test?

I actually like AOL because they notify you about Spam reports using a SCOMP reporting system. They even attach the email that was "spammy". Although they remove the email of the AOL user in the "From" line, you can embed it in the body of the email using your email providers [[email]] personalization to be sure you never email them again.

This is all available via their Feedback loop.

Yahoo has one too....but it's harder to qualify.
