Hey Everyone ,

How do you guys get a list? How did you guys build a list when you started out?

Basically you set up a squeeze page with an optin linked to an autoresponder. Most tend to give away something like an ebook, to increase their conversions. There are certain warriors that will do this for you in a WSO for very reasonable prices. Hopes that helps and welcome to the forum.

    Here's a list for you:

    - milk
    - butter
    - eggs
    - bread

Okay, just kidding. There are many ways to build a list. Using a squeeze page as kcom said is one. You can also start a newsletter and just put a subscription form on every page of your website. That's how I got started.

You can contribute a product to a giveaway event. For people to get your freebie, they have to submit their email address. The nice thing about this method is that lots of marketers promote the event so you don't have to do it all yourself. The drawback is that if you don't have a list already, you won't be eligible to join some of them. The quality of the list is not very good either, as it's all freebie seekers, but it's a start.

If you have a website there are lots of ways to get started. Hold a recurring contest. Buy ad space in newsletters on the same topic. Offer a free course by email.

It comes down to signing up with a list service, setting up your sign up page, and driving traffic to it. Beyond that, use your imagination to come up with promotions that get attention.

Dennis, I have a quick question regarding squeeze pages to build a list.

Say I have an e-book for sale, but I also have a Free report to give away which would be for my Squeeze Page. Is it best to drive all traffic to that squeeze page, and build up a list, and then sell the book that I created?

Now, is it better to have a separate domain name for the squeeze page, like the title of the free report, or should I just have a directory on the e-Book Sales Page domain.. like salespageforbook.com/free-report/

      Thanks

dem0x7 - Typically you give away a free report in exchange for the visitor's name and email address. You can promote the ebook within the free report, or promote a website for it. The free report should be valuable on its own merit. If people get value from what you're giving away, it makes them anticipate that your paid product must really be good.

There are no rules, just common practices you can follow or adapt/adjust to suit your own purposes.

For a squeeze page to be the most effective it should be the index page on it's own domain. Otherwise people will notice the URL and back off the extra to get to the home page to see what the site is all about. You don't want them to have any other options other than to submit their name and email address, or use their back button or bookmarks to leave if they don't want to sign up. The exception to that is if you need to use a disclaimer, then you have to link to that.

You can build more to the site than a squeeze page though. You just don't tell about it on your index page.

    Hope that helps.

Make sure your free report has value. Don't just get
a free report that has been passed all around the net.

If you need to, collect several reports and make your
      own. It will be original.

Drive your traffic to your report, then start an email
series. Only after you have given good content, should
      you try to sell ebook.

Exactly. The better your FREE stuff is that you give away, the easier it will be to sell to people. But make sure the paid stuff is just as great as the free stuff too or your sales won't last long.

the main way = set up a squeeze page and offer people something that will entice them to sign up to it - e.g. a free landing page template or a free ebook etc. Make sure they confirm themselves on your list before you give them the freebie though!

Write content yourself or have it written. Or you can even give away a list of resources you gather, or a video you create, or an audio, etc.

I've even given away links to youtube videos I didn't even create as an incentive. Because what I did was go out and find the best, most useful, highest rated youtube videos about that topic.

For years I had the most horrible list building strategy ever. I just had an opt-in box on every page on my website offering a subscription to my free e-newsletter. That was the only incentive. But over time was still able to build a list of just under 5,000 because people liked the content on my website. So it wasn't a total waste.

Search for PLR (Private Label Rights) resources, there is an absolute ton of it. Choose things of quality and not the same as everyone else is using. Give your visitor something of value as has been said because if you don't they won;t buy from you later.

A targetted list is far superior to a freebie hunters list so target a niche and use keywords that indicate someone is a buyer by that I mean if someone is searching for a certain brand of shoe, they are more likely to buy than someone who is just searching for shoes.

The quickest way to build a list is with a targetted PPC campaign which doesn't have to cost a lot if done right.

Here's how I do it, Plain and simple:

Step 1: Get a domain and a webhost (I recommend hostgator)
Step 2: Get an autoresponder (I recommend aweber)
Step 3: Decide on something you will give away for free (free report, video etc)
Step 4: Design a squeeze page
Step 5: Upload the squeeze page to the web host
Step 6: Upload the free gift to the web host
Step 7: Create a form in aweber and also load up your welcome email with the download link
Step 8: Put the form code on the squeeze page
    Step 9: Test it
Step 10: Send traffic to the squeeze page

        Traffic -> Squeeze page.

Then make changes to your squeeze page as you go and see which version gives you the highest success rate and stick with that.

Once you have a decent sized list you'll then begin to have a bit of leverage and you can start setting up ad swaps with other marketers with similar sized lists.

I'm going to tell you the fastest way I know, but be aware that you may lose some money here!

    1. Get an autoresponder. Aweber, GetResponse and AutoResponse Plus (self-hosted) are the best ones.

    2. Choose a niche.

    3. Find something to give away. Can be a good (don't forget, GOOD!) PLR ebook, autoresponder series, etc... I like to create my own email courses (I'll explain why later).

    4. Create a website to offer your gift (you may hire a designer at Warriors For Hire Forum).

    5. Integrate your website with your autoresponder (just generate a nice form).

    6. Find some nice products to promote. Here is why I like to create my own email courses (short course with 5 or 6 lesson). You can promote 1 or 2 products in your lessons (I use free trials most of the times), use an exit offer, a one time offer, create a follow up series with 5 or 6 emails to send people after you have sent all the lessons and offer a paid product in your last email, etc... There are many ideas to monetize your site so that you can pay for the traffic and hopefully make some cash at the same time you build your lidt.

    7. Get a $25 Yahoo! coupon (you can find it for free, just make some research on Google) and start a PPC campaign. You can use AdWords Keyword Tool for your kw research.

OPTIONAL: You can also use Google Analytics to improve your campigns.
OPTIONAL: you can use Bing instead of Yahoo!, but not AdWords, simply because Google has higher bids and harder rules.

That's it. But, as I told you, it may cost you money, there is a chance that your sales won't cover your expenses. So if you want to follow the steps above you must be able to spend some money!

In the time you wasted putting together this post you could have gotten 2-3 more people on your list! I'm just messing with you, a list is very important and I think you know that now. Easiest and fastest way is to use ppc with a squeeze page, but if you don't have a budget, you'll have to do some old fashioned article marketing.

    Good Luck!

Go get an auto-responder then build a squeeze page where you offer download to a free ebook or report in exchange for a email address and name, from there you can start to build your own list.

Build a squeeze page and then throw targeted traffic at it. Then use multi-variate testing to increase the conversion rate. That's essentially how I go about it. The more traffic and higher your sign-up rate, the bigger your list will grow.
