An Old Idea Worth Some Discussion...

Greetings Fellow Warriors,

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the economy has affected most of us in one way or another.

A few minutes ago, I was reading an article in U.S. News & World Report about how many cash-strapped individuals were turning to bartering.

It's obvious that there are plenty of talented Warriors participating in this forum. I thought I start this thread to see if any other Warriors were interested in bartering in exchange for other services.

Maybe Allen could start another section where fellow Warriors could post their talents and what they would be willing to exchange. It's just an idea I thought I throw out there to see what kind of response (if any) about this topic.

Thanks for reading this post,

Michael Cruz

I think it is a great idea to exchange services.

      Good Idea Michael,

I'm not 100% sure if it was this forum or another, but it seems to me we had discussed adding a barter section a couple years back, might've been another forum.

Either way, I think it is worth some discussion.

I'm all for it. I think there are a lot of warriors trying to get started that don't have a lot of cash but plenty of talent regardless of the economy.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I'm not sure if Allen is interested in doing this but in a Warrior's profile, a person could list the services or products they could offer for barter.

There's probably a more efficient method of doing this but I think it could benefit plenty of Warriors.

Well, I am certainly open. If anyone wants something done that requires being in Massachusetts, Indiana, or the US, or wants something done with data or various computer languages, etc... Maybe we can talk.

I have a number of interesting plans, some could take off, but I don't have the time or artistic skill to give them proper consideration. I CAN work with existing graphics fine though.

Hey TMG Enterprises, where are you in Massachusetts? I'm around burlington.

      Well a good Thread Indeed.

Yea Michael you have taken us ages back when the Barter system was used to get some thing or other.when people give shoes inturn get wheat, give wheat and get cloths.

Well if in the forum also we can implement than what Allen will get?think about this first.

      I support the idea.

I believe there was a site started by a member hereit was called BarterWarrior (I think). It never really took off, though it was promising.

We would have to work out what constitutes a "fair" trade, and other things. Or offers could simply be posted stating what you have to offer and what you will take in exchange.

As far as adding it to your profile, or signature for that matter, I don't think there's any rule against it, just so it doesn't devolve into spam.

Perhaps it could be a subcategory of the JV forum.

One thing you might consider doing is starting a "social group" for bartering here at the WF. I just did a quick check and there doesn't appear to be one for that yet. I think it's a good idea!

Thanks Brandon, I just set up a Social Group to see where this goes. I'm not sure how to make this function properly but I am willing to learn. If you're interested, please join!

      Best regards--

I myself sometimes approach other marketers and try to do product swaps. They have something I like and I have something that they may like that is going for close to the same price. So we simply trade products. Im happy they are happy. It is a win win.

Another thing that I have thought of doing is allowing people to choose to pay me what they think the product is worth to them. E-Junkie gives you the option for the person to choose the price they want to pay. I am not sure if they allow you to apply restrictions so that it has to fall in a certain price range. However I have thought of looking into this more and seeing how it goes.

Another alternative (that I have used) would be to make a subscription payment button. Say you have a product that sells for $27. You make the initial payment $7. Then if they like the product they do nothing and they are charged another one time fee of $20. If they are not satisfied or think that the product is not worth the $27 they simply cancel the subscription and they do not get charged the other $20 a month later.

I personally strive to create top notch content and have only had a few people ever cancel the subscription. Most likely they never planned to pay the full price. However I have landed a whole lot more sales that I probably would of never received from doing this. It cuts down the risk for the buyer and gives them a little sense of control.

I would love to take part in such a thing ... but am not sure what I can bring to the table since I don't have a particular talent in any one thing (ie, graphics, web design, etc) ... know a little about a lot LOL.

But, if anyone is near Hickory, NC area, I'll be willing to do some housework in exchange *grins* Seriously, not sure what I can bring to the table ... but something might get worked out.

But does sound like a great idea.
