I have created Paypal's 'Buy Now' button, and want to check if it is working or not. what should I do? For checking I have to buy my own item, or other method is there. Paypal users please guide me.

I usually have a friend go through the buying process. If there's a problem somewhere it will surely be noticed then. Just don't forget to refund

Register with a PayPal Sandbox service. Don't get confused with the real PayPal service. The sandbox enables you to test the PayPal button and other features.

Yeah, but it's a lot harder to set up compared to just buying through your own link, or getting a friend to do so.

Why complicate things? Just buy through your own link. No biggie

You can't buy through your own link, PayPal won't let you. But having a friend do it is the easiest solution. Set your price at $1 or so for the test, then don't forget to reset the price once you see it works :-)

      Yep,

      It is easy as that.

And really why do you need to test it?

If it generated the code and you have entered all the info correctly, then there really is no need. I have not heard of paypal buttons not working. Sure at some rare occasion there might be problem with their site etc, but normally it works just fine

You can buy through your own link - but you need to choose the "continue without logging into PayPal" option, and pay using a credit/debit card that isn't listed on your PayPal account

I test EVERY PayPal button I create. I want to see the process exactly as the customer will see it. I'm not worried about the PayPal code itself, but it's important to check the flow to make sure your Thank You pages, download pages, etc. are set up correctly.

What Gene^^ said. It's not really about testing the button code itself (I still have to see a button code that doesn't work if created properly) - it is about the process. Checking that all the redirects (after payment, after cancelation etc.) work properly, testing the (expiring) download link etc.

Friends and their PP account is of great help

I suppose you need to set the price at $1, and get your product purchsed by another friend or family member. That way you would be still not too poor, and you would know easily enough.

But do make sure that you know whether your button is worrking - you would not want to miss sales because of a button not working on your site - that would be a complete disaster for you. In other words, testing the Paypal button is a MUST-DO.

Create a fake PP account, send some money to it. And try to buy the item using it.

Ask a friend/family member to buy whatever, then get them to appeal because of something, then give them a refund, they'll notice if anything seems out of place, but I've personally been able to do all of my testing myself, never needed to call anyone in to help.

The easiest way to check is:

    1. Create a new PayPal account
    2. Set the price of your product at $0.01
    3. Transfer $0.01 to your NEW account from your old one
    4. Make A purchase using that button and using your new PayPal Account
    5. Make sure to set the price back to normal price
