8 year old domain - Should I buy it?

There's a domain for sale on another forum that I go to. It's 8 years old and the BIN is only $40.

The domain however has no history in archive.org, but is indexed in Google. I checked the whois and it really is 8 years old, but I have a few questions:

Let's say I bought this domain and built a site around it. Would the fact that it's 8 years old help with rankings? Considering that there has never been a site built on this domain, would it be pretty much just like buying a brand new domain?

Also, would the fact that it's 8 years old mean that I'll be less likely to get demoted? For some reason I always manage to get onto the top 10 in Google for a brand new domain, but it never lasts. Even if I build links slowly. I always get kicked out of top 10 and it takes months for me to get back.

Thoughts appreciated.

    Here's what I think...

Don't ask us.. but ask yourself. What are you going to do with the domain? If you are not planning to do anything with the domain then don't buy it...

It is easy to overcome Google's sandbox, just make a few post here and there, write few articles and we are indexed by Google already... we don't need an 8 year old domain to do it for us...

    It's that simple...

But... as usual this is just my 2 cents....

    Cheers
