.info with google sniper

I'm trying out the google sniper system by george brown and I just wanted to ask you guys(specially to those of you who are implementing the system)about the whole .info thing. He mentioned that we should avoid .info extensions because of it's association with hackers and spyware. Does this mean that google favors the other extensions(.com,.org,.net) over .info extensions? Or are we just talking about the preconceived notions of internet users in general? Have you guys tried sniper sites with .info extensions? How did it compare to other extensions if there was any difference at all? I sure hope that veteran snipers would shed some light on this matter. any insights would be greatly appreciated.:confused:

am doing the google sniper and am at the 3rd page for an 18,000 search with with 60,000 competitors. am almost to the first page . With only five posts but i have not seen any sniper sites with .info the .com,.org,.net hold more weight and will be better to start off with.

I don't know what the Google sniper system is.

But I know that Google makes NO difference in regards to the extension.

You can use .info if you want to and out-rank everybody else, as long as you have your keywords in that domain.

Thanks. I actually found threads that actually discussed a .info purge. But that was in the early 2008 so I was kind of hoping things would have changed by now.

That was a very temporary programming glitch where some bad code made its way into production. The same thing happened a while back when Google flagged a lot of sites (of different extensions, including .com) as 'harmful'. Even super smart Google programmers let bugs slip into production sometimes.

That isnt the best advice. If this guy is new, there is no way he is going to take a .info and out rank .com's and .org's.

    Google doesn't favor, people do

I am ranking great with *.info, even *.biz

I am angry since i often want to snag domains, and people getting .org and .net for keywords and PARKING THEM <--- makes me really, really angry.

hpgoody, "google sniper" is simply wordpress sites around a keyword, eg. product keyword.

Oh thanks mate! glad to hear that. That was the answer I was looking for. I was wondering whether the association with spam and spyware came from google or from internet users. Hopefully, other sniper veterans out here can share more of their experience with .info extensions

Actually that isn't true...Google applies more relevancy to domain names that have a more legitimate extension and will reference them more frequently.

Now you can of course combat this with better content and an older domain name, but you will be at a disadvantage with a .info domain name against someone who has a .com

Any new references to this man? Cause the ones I found were all dated back in 2008 and I was hoping things would have changed since then. Such a pity for those with tight budgets like me.

Yeah i have heard people argue both sides of this case and would love to know a definitive answer.

Certainly if you are targeting your website for people / word of mouth / authority site traffic a .com is better. But how goole ranks things i wouldn't know.

I will say that often it is pointed out that at some point google accidently removed all .info from their database and this is proof that they rank lower as they would never do this for .com's.

Well as a counterpoint to that arguement i would mention that at one point every single result in googles database was being marked as containing spyware (anyone else remeber this ? )

But a defuinitive answer if possible would be awesome , as .info domain names are CHEAP AS CHIPS !

Maybe you just gotta take a chance , buy a few and find out ?

It obviously cannot be IMPOSSIBLE for a .info domain to rank highly can it. If it is harder or easier is the question !

Hi, I have a mixture of sites .com,.org,biz and net etc..I use the .info for stuff that doesn't need to seo such as facebook ads but, with the others..from my own experience the .info's appear to get no or little attention from search engines.

Recently, looked at google sniper and kind of reverse engineered one example given, to cut a long story short..I registered a .org as the .com was gone and it is doing well in google. IMO .com or .org for preference..

Why don't you search on the terms I mentioned above and get yourself some new experiences of your own?

With a .com or .org, you'll often rank on page 1 immediately, without any content or backlinks (assuming it's a low-competition keyphrase). With an .info, this won't happen.

For that reason, I prefer a .com or .org domain. Plus, it looks more normal to the average internet user. Plus, it's probably easier to sell the domain/site.

        However...

I have some .infos and, other than the fact that they're not found in the SERPs right at the beginning, they perform indistinguishably from the other types once they get going.

The thing is: lots of good .coms and .orgs are already taken and parked by people who don't seem to have any intention of building a site around them. So does that mean you should abandon the keyphrase? No, just grab the .info and build a site.

Oh, and another thing. The 'freshness' phenomenon that puts .coms and .orgs on page 1 often doesn't last more than 2 weeks or so. So it's really not that much of an advantage in the long run.

Summary: an .info with some content and backlinks works just fine.

Same format with his top rank traffic ultimatum site. Annoying indeed. A hell of an expert, but still annoying. lol

Same thing I was thinking. I heard Google is switching to Universal Personalized search but then a lot of people told me it won't effect most SEO.

I was interesting in contacting about hiring him to SEO a couple of my sites.

    This is funny.

I've got tons of .infos doing just aswell as any other extensions.

I once got told they don't do so well and started using them just for test sites - but they outranked all of the competition so I stopped listening to people and just used them - I don't see any difference in my own results.

Don't listen to anyone on this type of stuff (Even me).

Most people telling you such things have an agenda (they're selling you something) and it sounds clever to say something like this - but it's usually wrong and just a marketing trick.

    TEST FOR YOURSELF!!!!!!

    Sidenote:

If your. INFO site is on #1, who cares? You laugh on the way to the bank, regardless of your domain extension. And we have proof enough that many people rank #1 with *.infos. People WILL click whatever is on #1.

I personally haven't had issues ranking with .info's. I would refer you to my GS review site which is a .info, and was top 3 on page 1 of Google for months and months, but it has recently been sand boxed by Google!

Oh well... just my 2 cents.

*Update* - We're back on page 1, .info and all!

I see no problems with .info extensions. As a matter of fact that Jamie Lim guy that was brought up here a couple of posts ago is ranking #1 for traffic ultimatum.

The only thing that might be wrong with .info is it's less trustworthy than other domain extensions.

But all we're talking is theory, try it out for yourself and you can be the judge of that.

Agree. Although I'm pretty sure that those sites don't rely on gsniper methods alone. probably has over a thousand backlinks pointed at it.
