Pinging Our Websites

Is this really neccessary?

The reason why I'm asking is because I use WordPress and they automatically notify the following site update service for me: rpc.pingomatic.com

Should I use other Pinging Services and ping to a list of websites as well or is that one above, enough?

When I was using blogger, I never Pinged my website, unless blogger did it for me behind the scenes. So, if it wasn't be pinged, was I missing something?

    Pinging your sites provides you with backlinks, which can help with your search engine rankings, and it can even bring referral traffic from the links as well. It isn't necessary, but it can help.

    However, be careful about pinging too much or you could be considered a spammer by the sites that get pinged and you won't get any benefit from them. So in this case, I would suggest you ping a blogger blog because I don't think they have any built in pinger, but not a wordpress blog on your own domain because it happens automatically with every post.

    Hi Guru,

    I started out with just one service, however, through trial and error and following some big marketers I ping quite a few services now and it seems to work for me.

    I am not an SEO expert but this is just from my experience. I posted an article to my blog at TheGuruHub.com with the list if anyone is interested in giving it a go.
