My "Facebook Warrior Mini QUIZ" - Let's see how sharp your marketing brain really is...

Ok, this is totally hypothetical, but I thought it would be good to post something for the sharp marketers that are kicking around here...

...and to also provide beneficial insights for beginners, or folks who are looking to use Facebook to drive traffic and grow their business in the near future.

As a side note, I think this particular topic is important, because us, as marketers, are facing a crucial shift in online marketing. No longer can you write articles or set up a few blogs and expect big things (or little things) to happen online.

This pivotal shift sees us looking towards social media sites like Facebook, to reach our audiences. THAT is why I think we should put our heads together and work this stuff out, so we can all embrace this new age, not let it crush us :-)

The challenge:

Pick ONE of these web based businesses to promote...

1. Dating agency
2. Cheap air tickets
3. Auction website

(pretty big markets, which is why I chose them).

Now, how would you promote your chosen business using JUST Facebook groups/fanpages?

1. Fan page or group?
2. What kind of content would you put up?
3. How would you bring people away from FB to your site?

P.S - I'm not looking to steal anyone's ideas or anything like that. I'm just curious to see how folks around here would (or already do) approach Facebook marketing, generally speaking.

I don't expect a full report or marketing plan, in other words :-)

This should help all members here who "don't get" Facebook for marketing, or are looking for real inspiration on what marketing is all about in today's web 2.0 age.

I will definitely return shortly with my own ideas...

So, hope this one flies...after all, there's been too much neg in this forum recently, and it's about time we all started getting back to hardcore, smart street level marketing.

Peace,

Nick

Well, my team are working on a new online store to be launched next week sometime and I heard one of the important keys is to keep people IN facebook once they're in facebook. Don't try to bring them to your site. Keep them in facebook and put your "add to cart" buttons right inside your fan page and make another fan page that becomes your thank you page...always keeping the buyer within facebook. The minute you bring them out of facebook, you've lost them. That's just what I hear. I'll be able to report later once my new store is up.

That's interesting. What was your source on this? Seems logical at first, but surely not so later on in the game?

  • Are you using FaceBook PPC? Cheap airline tickets would probably do better that way.

I will tell you the best way. Say you are targeting 'Cheap Flight Tickets'. You would make a page (pages are much better than groups) that is still in the niche but targets a larger audience and gets fans faster. Make it something like 'I hate sitting next to babies on airplanes' - this will have more chance of going viral than a page called 'Cheap Tickets'. Then from there you would make more and more pages like that.

Also to boost your fan numbers and go instantly viral (well, pretty much) use an fbml code like the 3 step code or the force share code.

Facebook marketing isn't hard. It's just a lot of thinking outside the box.
