Sweepstakes And Contests.

It seems that customers have become accustomed to getting something for free with their purchase. That said does anyone use sweepstakes and contests entries to drum up sales? I know these are old school, but I see the potential for them still being effective. A friend of mine once offered female customers a chance to win a date with him in exchange for their purchase but it didn't really fly.

    Yes, sweepstakes and contests are as popular now as they were in the '50s and '60s but kindsvater is correct, you must be careful. There must be "no purchase necessary" to make your offer a legitimate sweepstakes; otherwise it becomes an illegal lottery (and there can be no private lotteries).

    As for a contest, there should be some type of skill involved that is judged or rated, in order to select the winner.

    You can offer sweepstakes but your buyers and potential customers must all have the same chance of winning the prize ... and this is done by a random drawing which you can pay a 3rd party to do (to remove any association with deception or favoritism on your part).

    You should also post or otherwise announce to your customers the outcome of the sweepstakes.

    Sweepstakes, contests, raffles and lotteries are regulated differently in every state. That makes them an extremely complicated animal, and expensive in terms of making sure you are covered legally.

    yeah, completely agree with the above, I wouldn't go down this route due to the legal implications, keep it simple.
