Unfollowing on Twitter?

Does anyone know the best method to unfollow people on twitter who are not following you?

I used to use Twitter Karma but they stopped allowing the mass unfollow. Is there another way to find out if the people you follow are following you back? I don't even mind doing one at a time as long as I can find that info!

Thanks,
Kevin

You can still do it with twitter karma just not in bulk, one at a time only now. Just click the "unfollow" link under each person who is following you.

Don't auto-follow them in the first place?

Seriously, why do people use auto-follow to artificially boost their follower count? Who are you fooling? Yourself, maybe... but nobody else. Everyone can spot matching follower/following counts and identify people that are gaming the system, and if everyone is following 30,000+ people - what are the chances they will read or click your posts?

Social media is about building relationships, not artificially high follower counts.

I agree 100%. It's really cheap and useless strategy.

Here you go: Flush the Twitter users that do not follow you back :: Tweepi

Twitter's TOS doesn't allow for mass unfollow anymore, but this does the trick.

Rick- social media is also about building social proof. Nothing wrong with having a lot of followers.

Auto-follow is not social proof... all it proves is that you are gaming the system to artificially boost your follower-count.

Social media is about building real relationships with people, not gaming the system.

Hey Rick, some of us Twitter maniacs use twitter to market and advertise.

We dont have time for all the relationship building.

Relationship building the way your describing it has been tried and tested and works pretty decent if you have alot of time.

But theres ways to build relationships without wasting so much time in your day.

My opinion. If you set automation up right you can make a very good living with it and it has worked for me for almost 2 years.

Also i agree with Mark Hess.

Tweepi is by far the best tool to use to unfollow. Its about one of the only ones really working any good right now and has a pretty easy interface.

= long-term business fail. If it can be done purely on automation, with zero expense, from home... it won't be around for long. Everyone will do it, the margins will go to zero, and there will be plenty of supply (people automating) and no demand (people get sick of blatant automated promos).

I would love a basic breakdown of how this is making you money. It's genuinely intriguing to me... cause it doesn't seem realistic .

It depends on your end goals and strategies. Are you trying to get the quick sale, or get a lifelong customer? The approach is 100% different. Yes, it does take more time to build relationships but the payoff is over years, not days. So it really depends on your goals and what you want to do. If you don't have time for relationship building, then your "turn and burn" strategy will die out eventually.

I don't use automated methods but I've figured out a way to easily know if they didn't follow back.

    1. I click on the "following" link to see who i follow
    2. I click on "next" a few times so I come down to people I followed ~4 days ago
3a. I click on the "cogwheel" button.
3b. If I can send direct message to them i know they followed back
3c. If I can't send direct message I know they didn't follow back and unfollow them

It's a little cumbersome but it's quite fast once you get started. I only follow manually so I don't get a huge list of people that doesn't follow back so no big problem to unfollow manually using this method.

  • If you need a service that does a highly targeted auto-follow and auto-unfollow for you hands free, check out my signature. Its not free, but a small fee can help you manage several Twitter accounts and automate your Twitter marketing efforts.

Unlike most of the downloaded software that require installs and constant updates, you just need a browser to get going within a few minutes. Also, we comply with Twitter's terms of service all the way.

Doesn't anybody use Friend or Follow to clean up their followers/following? One small thing I do with FoF, besides see who isn't following me back, is also I go to the people who follow me and I follow them, and I sort them by their last tweet date. Then I just unfollow those who have not tweeted in several months (or never). I figure I am not getting any value from them so I make room to follow others.

Im giving away a free version of TweetAttacks which you can download in the following list. You can use it to follow and unfollow people who dont follow you back.

    TweetAttacksFree.zip

And it does not use API, so its a lot safer.

The pro edition is in my sig.

    Thanks,

I use Hummingbird2, it costs $97, I just unfollowed 1,000 people from my account last week.
It times the Unfollows to appear like its a real person doing it. I have used this on 6 other of my clients accounts and none have been disabled. I would not suggest over using it though.

      Hey Jay,

I'm having problems with the unfollow / follow scheduler. Maybe you can help? How do I ensure that it recognizes my preferences to not unfollow until after 2 or 3 days for example?

I've made the setting change in the unfollow module, but will the scheduler recognize this? I don't see this anywhere in the manual.

      Thanks!
