High Opt rate, Low Double Opt rate. Suggestions?

Hey everyone

I have a squeeze page with a rather high first opt in rate

about 30%

but only a 60% make it through to double opt in.

Any suggestions?

These are the squeeze and thank you pages:

Thank You!

I was thinking of putting a video of mine, showing and telling
the surfers exactly what to do. What do you say?

Thanks in advance for your help

Lots of people will enter a bogus email address in case there's no double-opt requirement. Only when they see that they have to click the confirmation link will they (sometimes) enter their real email and verify.

    1. use single opt-in.
    2. make it clear they wont get their goodie with a bad email.

One trick I use is to redirect to a shopping cart after the opt-in,
and then they can pick their freebies in the shopping cart,
which emails a link, thus strong-arming a legit email out of them
and often resulting in 2 opt-ins in the same list from different
addresses. The second address may be the "preferred" address
for the user, but it's not surrendered on the squeeze page,
only when they see the shopping cart. Of course they can
use the same email for both, but many do not.

Have a big headline on your confirmation page urging
people to go and check their e-mail now.

E.g. "Go Check Your E-mail to Confirm Your Request
to Receive the 5 Simple Steps For Playing Billiards
    Like a Pro
    Course"

Spit-test headlines constantly to see which text
    gets the most confirmations.

Also, remove the two spelling mistakes from the
confirmation page too: adress to address, and change
    emaiil to e-mail.

The mis-spellings don't exactly inspire confidence.

Also, depending upon your target market they may
not be familiar with the process of confirming their
e-mail so you'll need to explain what to do in more
    detail, step-by-step.

Do that in text or via a video.

Take a look at what your competitors are doing and
see what process they're using for confirmation.

    Dedicated to your success,

You could have the submit button called ''Send To My Email Now!"

Or on the thank you page, have a re-direct to an affiliate offer, so at least the traffic isn't being wasted

QFT, it's all about the call to action clearly indicating that the e-mail address has to be accurate. That... and solid confirmation instructions.

Are you using AWeber? They have the option to use an audio reminder after prospects optin. This seems to help convert the double optins.

For your confirmation email, you could use something enticing that makes them want to confirm such as "Confirm your email to claim exclusive bonus" or something like that.

    Hope this helps!

I always use SINGLE opt-in ... I figured double-opt-in would be annoying for people signing up on a squeeze page and I was right.

The trick tho is to offer them something which they only get if they check their email, like a downloadable report. That usually works.

    Any questions let me know
