Value of a Domain Name

Hey warriors,

How do you value, in real world terms, the value of a domain that's being parked away right now. The domain is a keyword with 250,000 EXACT searches a month (according to Google Keyword Tool).

It's a 3 word domain, and the keyword that makes up the domain name does seem to have a commercial intention to it, meaning it's not PickMyNose.com or some stupid thing like that.

How could I gauge a estimation of the domain name value?

TIA!

That would depend on branding value (does someone want it) and the number of type in's per month.

If no type ins, and no branding value it won't be worth much more than reg fee probably.

It's worth what people will pay for it.. It's easy to find domain names that match high search keywords .. Domains names by themselves are not worth much unless they have branding value like was mentioned

Unless someone is of like mind and just has to have it, the domain holds little value by itself. Three word domains aren't hard to come by for reg fee.

Tell that to whoever owns OnlineSexVideos.com, OnlineBookStore.com, CheapCarInsurance.com, CaliforniaRealState.com, DivorceLawFirm.com, ArchitectInLondon.com, TexasOilField.com or many others. You bet they're worth some spare change.

I am looking for experienced opinions from domain brokers: how can I gauge the value of a domain name?

Then perhaps you should purchase a domain appraisal. I thought you threw the question out in an Internet Marketing forum. Considering that you did not post the actual domain, no one could possible give you any idea of it's worth. You only posted domain names that other people own that may have value.

I would never recommend buying a domain name appraisal. They are all over the place depending on where you get them and they don't mean anything to domain buyers (at least the great majority of buyers).

The best advice was given above about comparing similar domain sales, but you can also sometimes get an idea based on how much the phrase pays on Adsense.

Also, the price you can get when selling a domain has a wide gap between finding and selling it to an end user and selling to a domainer.

I have a three word domain with 22,000 exacts...until something is put on it or you can find someone who wants to put something on it there is no value at all.

All people can say is a ballpark figure of what they would likely aim for

Honestly, it's totally dependent on if someone actually WANTS that domain for branding purposes...keywords don't hold that much value...because if someone wants a domain for SEO purposes, then they will buy the same one with hyphens in between each word for $9...and be done.

So again...if someone wants it for branding purposes, then you can call your banker...if not, keep mowing lawns.

That's the long and the short of it.

I did buy a domain name not long ago, never registered before, not much search volume, at fist I thought it was a good idea but then I did not really know what to do with it so I parked it at sedo and left it there till it was to expire. EstiBot did apprise it for only a registration price. But then out of the blue I received an offer for $ 300 and that is what I sold it for. So, one man's useless domain name is other man's perfect domain, or something like that.

I guess, you have to name your domain name to get more specific replies.

Anonymous, the only reliable way to determine the approximate value of your domain name is to compare it to similar domains that have actually sold recently. You can do this by going to DN Sale Price- Domain Name Sales Price and History. Plug in a few details and you will get a list of similar domains along with their actual selling price.

A domain name is worth the price that the buyer is ready to pay. Appraisals, traffic, keywords, TLD etc fade into the oblivion if no one is willing to buy it.

This may be true, but when you own a domain, it is to your benefit to know the value based on previous sales of similar domains, to give you a clue about what how you should be negotiating.
