Default Anyone use online press releases?

I've been writing keyword-rich press releases for a number of clients, who tell me they've been getting great traffic from them.

Now I'm ready to release a few press releases for my own business to correspond with the launch of a new web site, but I have a few questions.

First, where is the best place to submit the release? I'm most familiar with PRWeb.com, which charges $80 and up for a single press release. I've found similar sites with cheaper rates, but I'm not sure how they compare. Does anyone have experience with this?

Second, are multiple press release submissions good or bad? I want to maximize exposure without getting hit by any duplicate content penalties.

Third, are places like PRWeb really a good way to generate media visibility ... or should I be building my own list and contacting editors myself? I've always viewed online submission sites as a way to build traffic more than anything else, but of course I'd like media attention too.

Thanks in advance!

Just sent a PM to you with a download link for my report that answers pretty much just about everything you asked.

I didn't want to appear self-promoting, if anyone else would like it, please PM me.

The above three services are NOT free. They charge $399 and up to distribute a press release.

For a list of reputable press release services in many niches that I try my best to keep up to date, see yudkin.com/resources.htm

This issue of press release services has always intrigued me. Honestly, I can't imagine that they would work very good, but maybe they do?

Just seems to me that people get deluged by press releases already. Are they really going to go search for them from a bulk service?

There are several that I like,

Webwire.com <not free
PR.com I use the free one

and the Metro newspaper has online postings of press releases.

That maybe an option for you in your part of the world too.

pressreleases.kcstar.com

A lot of people these days use them for search engine optimization purposes - to get backlinks and web traffic.

As for press releases sent to real live reporters - I was a newspaper reporter for a long time and my God, did we get deluged with press releases. So yes, if your aim is to get past an editor and into the newspaper, odds are slim, and you really have to know how to come up with a newsworthy angle.
