THE BIG "QUICK, EASY" TRAFFIC QUESTION?

There seems to be so many long-term and quick approaches to creating targeted traffic to your sites.

There's the old standbys like steady article submission and protracted high-quality backlink building, both which can take a while.

There's using purchased backlinks like Angela's/Paul's.

There's grabbing good SERP traffic by researching high-search/low-comp keywords, then putting those keywords in an exact-match domain and seeding them throughout your blog pages.

There's PPC. There's link farms & generators. Submitting to Social Network sites.

And there's a gazillion software programs and bots, like SocialBot/RSSBot/WebTrafficGenius, and on and on, whose creators promise in their sales pages, that they'll deliver a flood of quality traffic to your sites with just a click of a button (after some pre-setup, of course.)

I'm no longer a newbie, I'm actually making a little money at this (about 1K a month) and I'm looking to jumpstart my IM income to serious, quit-your-day-job level. I've studied hard from many of the well-respected gurus on this forum...they've all been great!

But my head's still spinning about what's the most efficient way to create more traffic, partly because there's so many different approaches vying for my attention. I don't mind putting in some work, but I don't want to waste time trudging through months of article submissions and slow backlink building if there really are quicker, more automated ways, ways that really work and can be trusted.

So if anyone can simplify, clarify and maybe narrow down a list of the approaches - and be honest about which "quick, automated" approaches really produce long-term results, perhaps even eliminating the need for longer, more tedious methods, perhaps not, I (and others) would appreciate it...Thanks!

As old-fashioned as you might think it is, article marketing -- especially when the articles are optimized and stick to Google -- is the best way to get quick, easy traffic that actually converts!

No need to reinvent the wheel! Do what works, just do it better... And outsource it if it's too big of a pain in the rear to do it. Personally, article marketing works best for me.

You can also try marketing OFFLINE, such as bulletin boards, business cards and/or fliers that have your website address on them along with what you offer... Again, not as "easy" as you'd like, but you gotta be willing to lift a finger for your business!

    Best,
    Shane

Thanks Shane, appreciate your view that article marketing can be one of the best traffic sources, and about outsourcing the parts you don't like to do.

How 'bout some of the other tools I mentioned. Still want to hear if some of those automated software traffic generators live up to their promise, and should be thought of as as adjunct to traditional article/backlinking methods, or good enough to replace them, or useless enough to make them not worth buying or using at all.

    hey rythm,

    Approach-1

    1) first consider what traffic source is helping you generate the 1k that you are making right now
    2) look for the tools available to speed up the work that you do / automate some of your tasks / get maximum leverage out of the traffic source
    3) try them one at a time
    4) when you have maxed out the traffic source, see if there are additional niches to monetize
    5) then move onto the next traffic source

    Approach-2

    1), 2) and 3) same as above
    4) pick out additional traffic sources that would possibly make money as your current traffic source - for example if you using article directories, you can take the same articles publish them to web 2.0 sites, turn your articles into videos and post on video marketing sites, turn articles into short reports and post them to ebook directories etc.. the basic idea is to pick out additional traffic sources that will leverage the work you have already done for your existing traffic source.
    5) move to next niche

like you mentioned there are a multitude of directions you can go and make money. the best way is to focus on what is working for you and milk it all you can.

I appreciate all the guidance. From the answers on this thread, it sounds like the main recommendation is to test and/or research a variety of different traffic methods, milk the ones that successfully pull traffic for that niche, and outsource time consuming chores like article posting or backlink building.

These are all good suggestions...the only problem is, it takes a lot of time to research and test out all these different approaches, then watch to see the results over time. Once again, if that's the only way to do it, I'm not adverse to hard work. But for someone new to traffic generation, the sheer number of approaches can be overwhelming, and it would be nice if someone said, "These are the 3 or 4 or 5 methods you should concentrate on." I'm a checklist kind of guy. If someone hands me a list and says, do these 5 things every day to generate traffic, I'll do it, but left to navigate through all the study and courses about how to get traffic, makes me feel a little lost at sea.

Which explains why the ads for all those automated traffic generating software start to look so tempting. But nobody seems to be mentioning RSSBot, Web Traffic Genius, Miracle Bot, or any other traffic software, so I'm starting to assume they don't do much, and you're still left with learning and working a lot of manual traffic-generating approaches.

I should mention that my current income comes from autoblogs that drive their own traffic, so I haven't tested any traffic method there, nor can I just increase what I'm already doing. I'm about to move into product affiliate/review type sites, which I want to drive to pg1, and nothing I've learned from autoblogging will apply in that arena.

Quickest way to get traffic: Study your market, find out where this market is hanging out, promote.

I always use this. Although the popular backlink methods are effective. It is always better to start looking for your market because these people are the ones who are interested in what your site has to offer.

Yep, this is the one that will take you into the big leagues. Especially if you can find someone who will market your product to their list.

yea..the problem is how to find out where this market is hanging out and how to promote it the right way.

I think the quickest way to get traffic is viral marketing. If you only got 1 visitor and that 1 visitor share your site on Facebook, twitter, etc, you might get 20 visitors to your site and if only 5 out of 20 visitors share your site on social media you might get 100 visitors. Thats pretty good rite?

Social media is often overrated. You can get a lot of visitors, but often not many buyers. (Of course, there are always exceptions.)

What works better is to find out where your customers already buy products or services... find the sites with lots of traffic and the people with medium to large lists.

If you don't know where those sites and list owners are, then you don't know your market... and you need to do some research.

Once you find out where the market is already going (especially if they're spending money there), see if you can run an ad or convince a list owner to promote your product to their list... sometimes, you can get a site owner to put your product on their thank you page if they sell products.

But it's hard to formulate an effective marketing strategy until you know where the market is and what they're already consuming.

Thanks for replying, airabongco, but these are the kind of vague, no-specific-directions answers that drive newbies crazy.

Let's nail it down to an actual example. Let's say I have an affiliate contract with a new exercise machine. It's a good machine, really helps burn fat and build muscle easily. I can quickly erect a nice-looking informative review site.

Now, if by "where this market is hanging out" you mean, where potential buyers of this machine are browsing, well, they're probably typing in searches for "lose weight", "build muscle", "fitness aids" and things like that, and I can do my keyword research and try to find some low-competition keywords, try to get an exact domain match, and grab some of their searches. Beyond that, I don't know that, as a group, they're hanging out anywhere specific. Maybe some of them chat on a weight-loss or fitness forum, so I could try to post there with an affiliate sig. But as you know, most forums frown on somebody joining & posting a few times just to drop in their affiliate anchor, and many don't allow any such links.

So this whole concept of finding where "they" hang out, or finding a successful marketer with a medium/large list of these kind of people and then having that marketer be willing to share their list (unlikey, since that would make them less successful) sounds like lots of deep private-eye work with hit-or-miss results at best.

So maybe I'm missing something...could you elaborate a little more please
