Default hope for newbies

I posted this earlier, but I guess I clicked on the wrong button cos it finished up in the test forum!

This might be helpful to other newbies. I have a page on my website that had the instructions for making something. It was getting visitors so I wrote an illustrated ebook. I replaced the instructions with a sales page for the book. Result - no sales.

A few days ago I reintroduced the instructions. After the instructions I tell people that if they would like more detailed instructions they can buy the book. Result - sales.

For me it proves what the experienced Warriors keep saying - give your customers a nugget for free. It proves to them you are genuine and encourages them to buy.

Decent post. There are quite a few marketers that forget to prove their selves first. The odds of you getting sales when you do not have any rep are pretty slim unless you have a way with words and can make a good sales page.

However you can even bump it up a notch and create two reports. One for free and the other to sell.

Start out with an article or two on the subject to get people to visit the site. Then offer a free report (the bait) in exchange for joining your email list. Now you have something to work with.

When reading a report / ebook people put down the defenses to some degree. This is when you subconsciously sell to them. Maybe mention the final product (book for sale) a few times through out the report or at least hint to them that there is more to learn about the subject.

At the end of the free report direct them to the sales page to buy the good stuff. Then over the next couple of weeks send them an message here and there on autopilot with your autoresponder. Maybe give them a few more articles and talk up the information in the paid version and let them know why they should get it.

It is your basic sales funnel.

Spot on - myself and my business partner have a system for giving away free products - so people can see the quality, and then offering them the master resell rights or rebranbdable version or whatever the 'upsell' is.

Conversion rate is consistently between 5 and 20% and although I'm not tracking the results intensly any more (just enjoying the results) I can say that we pulled in $8,000 in 8 weeks when we first tested and tracked in fine detail.

Show people what's on offer first - it works.

Tony
