Why Is Article Marketing Important and What is Link Wheel?

I know alot of Warrior members are advocating article marketing as a way to generate traffic and backlinks...But what is the real purpose of article marketing? Is it just to build backlinks? If that is so, won't buying backlink package the way to go?

Also, I have heard about the term link wheel...but what is that?

Thanks for the clarification

Backlinks are ONE of the benfits to article marketing. I guess everyone has their own personal reasons for why they like article marketing, so here's mine:

I enjoy the back-links that article marketing provides, but really it's only a side-effect for me, the MAIN reason I use article marketing is for the small boost in traffic you get directly from article directories, especially right after your article gets approved.

The reason being is... my signatures always direct to a squeeze page. When my articles get approved, I always have a boost in subscribers... which means repeat visitors to my website sometime in the future. Repeat visitors are GOLD.

Basically what I do is get the small surge from article marketing, and try to CAPTURE as many of those people as possible with my squeeze (opt-in) page.

Anyway, the whole thing is detailed step-by-step in my free report (in my signature)... Article marketing is only ONE of the ways I direct traffic, and like I said, the backlinks sometimes help my pages get traffic in the future, but my personal favorite benefit to article marketing is the traffic you get from your articles right after they get approved.

    Hope that helps!

Everyone has their own reasons for article marketing. And new marketers get shortsighted when they think of article marketing because in a sense, marketers who teach bum marketing techniques teach it in a way where it is easy to get tunnel vision.

The real deal (or how I see it) is that article marketing is nothing more than making yourself and your business more visible to others in places where you may not be that visible.

The real reason why EZA is such a good place to syndicate content is because it can rank so easily for long tail keywords faster than if you tried to write the same article on a new website.

And that said, there are plenty of other "non-traditional" article mills in which you can achieve the same visibility.

I won't get into a debate as to whether the backlink acquired is worth anything. Personally, I think if you are using it for backlink acquisition you are taking the long way (it is much easier just to write great content, network with peers and businesses in your market or verticals surrounding your main market and arrange deals for acquiring backlinks. The links are simply worth more in most cases.

Saw a similar topic on another forum. It's like all your blog sites are linked together and are also linked to your money site.

People mostly use article marketing to take advantage of the high PR of the article directories, and secondly for the backlinks. This means that if you build your article around a well chosen keyword phrase it will rank in the search engine results for that phrase.

You can use some article directories in link wheels as well, as some of them will let you point a link to other article directories (as well as normal websites)

There's some good info on link wheels in this forum - but I have heard that Google does not like them, can easily code them and will give you a slap if you're not careful. Link magnets are supposed to be better. There's more information here:

I've found the info from Sean Donahoe to be pretty good - recommended.

Threads asking how to do Article Marketing come up quite often here - so I have a standard reply - I hope this helps:

Two brilliant threads to read about article marketing are these:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...marketing.html

Read them both - all the way through - and take notes.

For further information I recommend the following directory - It is education in article marketing - a guide book and monthly newsletters - with a directory thrown in! You can read what Warriors think about it here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...alks-walk.html

Decent backlinks will almost certainly last longer.

As an article marketer myself, I've always found that in traffic terms, about 95% of visitors come from the top 7 or 8 articles directories, so I don't bother with the rest.

On the subject of link wheels, I think it's fair to say that most Warriors are actually using this term in a much looser sense than its original, literal meaning (the one seen in the little diagram above). I don't know whether that specific link-structure is really unproductive/counter-productive as many allege, but I've always found loosely linked, less formally structured networks of connected links of considerable SEO value, myself.
      Yes.... listen to this... ^^

I thinks that article marketing is one of the best methods to rank high for keywords because you are getting backlink from a quality page which has quality content on the topic and has only 1-2 outbound links on the page.

    Straight from Wikipedia:

"Article marketing is a type of advertising in which businesses write short articles related to their respective industry. These articles are made available for distribution and publication in the marketplace. Each article contains a bio box and byline that include references and contact information for the author's business. Well-written content articles released for free distribution have the potential of increasing the authoring business' credibility within its market as well as attracting new clients.

"Article marketing has been used by professionals for nearly as long as mass print has been available. In paper-print form (as opposed to online forms), article marketing is utilized commonly by business owners as a means of obtaining free press space. A local business provides useful content to the newspaper free of charge, and in return the newspaper prints the business' contact information with the article. Because newspapers and other traditional media are expected to present content on limited budgets, this arrangement is generally advantageous for all parties involved.

"For example, an accounting firm may market itself by writing an article entitled "The Top 10 Ways to Avoid Being Audited" and offering it to the local newspapers several weeks prior to tax season. Similarly, a roofing company may offer radio stations a concise article entitled "How to Avoid Ice Damage to Your Roof this Winter" shortly before the winter season.

"Article marketing has become increasingly popular as a marketing method under the Web 2.0 generation of business on the Internet. Many subjects have gained popularity through viral propagation of articles via social networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Many authors have also joined web 2.0 sites like squidoo and hubpages in order to continue to distribute their articles.

"The sudden popularity of article marketing has caused an overall reduction in quality in many subjects, mainly due to individuals writing low-quality articles as a quick way of achieving exposure. Efficient use of article marketing as a form of promotion requires invested effort in writing high-quality, relevant articles."

Read in this very forum people that add a link wheel and nothing else and end up in the sandbox. I also have an off-line client related to a Google employee who normally acts as if he works for the NSA, but got drunk this past New Years. Was very enlightening. And that is not the most alarming thing he said, evidence of which I have already seen and mentioned and been ignored on this forum about. Other more knowledgeable people that also test everything have also run into the same evidence. This other issue is so alarming I assume everyone here is just in denial about it. I certainly would be if I wasn't smacked in the face with it.

Actually they are more like 1999 when Michael Campbell wrote about them in his book "Nothing But Net". He called them "Mini Nets"

Yeah, with Google policy, links are hard to come by. My take is do it until it doesn't work. No one is sand-boxed for life and if you have multiple streams of income, one or two sites in the sand-box shouldn't mean anything... but maybe one less Starbucks this week.
