Help! How do I fix the formatting on my site...

Hello,

I have a HUGE problem and am not sure how to fix it.

I went in to post a brand new blog post on my blog tonight and now the blog page is all messed up: Boost Business Online Institute | Category Archive | Blog

I was only posting a new blog post in the WP admin area and didn't touch any of the template.php or CSS files which govern the look/layout of my site, so I have NO idea if or how I might have caused it.

But I don't know how to fix it either. Can someone take a look and tell me how to fix it ASAP??? I'd greatly appreciate it!

Sincerely,
Michelle

All I see is "Sorry, no posts matched your criteria."

Did you possibly change your static page by accident?

Hmm.. The first thing that comes to my mind...

Go to Settings > Reading.. and make sure "Front page displays" is marked as "Your latest posts"..

That's the first thing that I think of, check that out and let me know. You might have accidentally changed it to a blank static page.

No, that's not it. I just checked and it's fine. The settings are identical to the second site, which is fine.

See how the sidebar widgets are way off to the right of the page? That really doesn't have anything to do with whether the blog page lists a full page or a summary page, etc.

I'm thinking it has to be with one of the template.php pages or a CSS page. Not sure...

The index looks normal. Your blog is a category? I never heard of that before. Sorry, I wish I knew how to help.

      Thanks.

      Diane,

The link I gave is the link to my blog page, which will list multiple posts, once I have them. Every other page on the site is fine. It's just that one page. It's not the link that's the problem. It's the formatting on the site. I have NO idea what the issue is.

Still trying to figure it out....

:rolleyes:I would look at all the container sizes. When I was trying to customize my site I got some really weird results like that when I was messing with my dimensions.

Just can't remember exactly which thing I changed to get that look.

I think that because of the way the cream color changes width when the footer comes up.

        I don't suppose that's much help.

Because the whole post space is gone it is either a link to post problem or an css problem. Try to find the last post edit at the bottom of the page to revisions and restore the one just under the current post.

If that does not work email me at and I will help you further.

I will remove my email fom this post in 10 minutes

You need to make sure you do not have invalid html script tags in your post. It looks like a Iframe script is in your post which will resize your webpage

Yes, I just got it fixed less than 2 minutes ago.

I messaged Istvan and he asked me about my permalink structure.

Honestly, I a bit of a WordPress neophyte. I understand the benefits of using WP and love the ease of using it. But other than that, I only have a very basic and general understanding of WordPress and not much experience with it.

I paid someone else to design this for me. The site wasn't finished when she stopped communicating with me. Now I'm stuck trying to finish it myself. (Hence my SOS messages here.)

His question prompted me to go back in and look. There are currently two categories: "Admin" and "Blog." I think "Admin" was checked by default and nothing else. I had NOT checked "Blog" when I posted it. I just went in and checked "Blog" and voila! problem solved.

                Thanks for your help everyone!

Based on that information, can you tell me why it would do that? It surprises me that not checking the "Blog" category would cause the formatting issues. Why would it just not post at all? And the individual post was visible by going to the direct link with no formatting issues...

I know enough basic HTML to know what not to touch. And I wasn't anywhere near any of the PHP or CSS files when the problem occurred. So I was very confused about what was causing FORMATTING issues. ????

                Weird.

I'm glad the problem is fixed, but I'm still confused why not checking the "Blog" category would cause that kind of problem. ????

                Thanks,
                Michelle

Ok, I have a guy from Fiverr.com who's been helping me with some of these technical updates. I e-mailed him before I posted on here. I waited a little while, but since I had no idea when I might hear from him, I came here. (I'm not even sure what time zone he's in.)

I just found an e-mail from him, telling me he updated some of the theme files. I've sent him an e-mail asking specifically what the problem was and what he did to fix it. (So maybe it WASN'T me.) I'm still very confused by what the problem was in the first place!

The problem was: the page in question was a single category archive view and the only post in that blog was placed in another category. Hence the "no post matched your criteria" message.

And the layout went crazy because one or more closing /div tags were missing from the Loop when there wasn't content to be displayed.

                    Mystery solved.

                      Ah! THAT makes sense.

This was the explanation I got from my Fiverr.com guy:

"The problem was there's one line of code that causes of error which any posted post will disappear on the blog list. So I deleted it and updated the file."

Your answer was a lot clearer.

Thanks so much for your help!

And let me know when you put out that WordPress MBA course. Obviously, I need it!
