But I want to do it SO badly.

I love the ones I've watched with Nichelady and today with Ryan Deiss and the "Barefoot Executive."

I want to do this with my customers - I feel it would offer them a lot of value (two audiences - my web 2.0 customers and my "writing an eBook" customers).

However, it's so....

live!

When I first started doing teleseminars, I would get SO extremely nervous and then it got much easier, but still - it was on phone, not on video!!

I know I must get over my phobia. Any tips?

Tiff

It can be scary... much like speaking in public.

Before you go live just psych yourself up by watching some motivational video. Something that would make you in the frame of mind where you feel very confident.

Maybe some John Reese videos or maybe even this video...

You'll do fine... The fear of doing it is more painful than actually doing it... So just do it!

    Good luck!

Yeh, I just saw the Ryan Deiss live video today. Very well done considering it was all impromptu. That Carrie lady was awesome - she is extremely articulate and could actually host her own show- she's that good, imo.

I think its probably like anything - it takes practice. I would start with a much shorter show than they had - maybe only half an hour.
That way you'd get a feel for it.
There wouldn't be the burden of feeling like you had to carry an hour or longer.

Face the fear and do it anyway Tiff!

Just remember that the people watching like you, want to hear what you have to say and will be wanting you to have a great time and enjoy what you're doing.

There really is no pressure except that which you put on yourself and the fear that you currently have is far worse than any reality of actually doing it, so you're in more pain now than you're going to face by doing it - so just do it and get it over with.

I know you like helping people, so just remember that the longer you don't do this - the longer you're not helping them in ways you know you could.

If this fear is stopping you from doing this - what else might you not being doing in your life for similar reasons? Do this and you may find that your life changes in ways you can't even imagine.

Once you've done it the first time, it can only get better as you refine and enhance what you do - so the quicker you get started the quicker you'll get better and reach your desired goals.

    Go for it.

I would think it would be a lot like using a webcam & taping yourself...since you're not looking at anything but the camera. In my opinion, speaking in front of a live audience would be so much scarier because you'd be able to see the expressions on people's faces...I'd start thinking "that person hates me"...LOL!

I think I'd have someone else handle the chat box on Ustream though because so many people post crazy ( and sometimes rude) comments.

You should definitly try it! More and more women are getting into & becoming incredibly successful in IM...just like Carrie the "barefoot" lady...and YOU! I follow as many female IMers as I can...it's inspiring...

Maybe try it first as an "interview" type show...either where you're the one being interviewed or you're interviewing or having a conversation with someone else. It takes the pressure off...

Let us know when you do your first show so we can tune in!

It is definitely something I would love to do as well. Problem is, I run my business from my home and I live outside of a DSL or cable connection. So, I used a mobile broadband card.

Although it is super fast, I do not know if it would handle feeding a live video stream.

Downloading is fast but uploading it slow. So, that would lead me to believe there would be a ton of a lag.

Tiff, this is no different than anything else you've created.

IMAGINE those people Andy mentioned. Imagine you giving your information to them and loving every minute, and then wanting more.

Put more emphasis on your desired outcome of what you want these people learning and taking with them. And spend less time on the "what if I mess up" part.

Who else believes that Tiff can do this, and it will turn out great?

    Go get 'em!

    Tiff,

The one secret that many will never tell you about being "live"..

When you do it its already over

Call me crazy, but knowing that there is no way to get it wrong, whatever it is, live is live; and everyone understand that live is real.

It gives you a wide path of wiggle room, no matter what happens, the audience (or I should more accurately say YOUR audience),

Wants to know what you are saying, not how you say it or what things that you may get wrong.

There are going to be some critics, there are always critics.

Your critics are not your audience.

No matter if its your first time out, or you give 4 presentations a day, the people who are interested in what you have to say, are there for information, inspiration and your knowledge and expertise.

You could be on your first day in business and there is a group of people that will find your insight priceless.

Take a breath, switch it on, and be you!

With your knowledge and experiences, you will be able to present your message in a way that will connect with people who are your audience, another person talking on the same topic will present and connect with their audience.

Just to make this perfectly clear...

    • You are the only YOU on the planet
    • Only YOU have your exact perspective
    • The connection you have with YOUR audience no one else will have EVER
    • Its not about the presentation
    • Its not about the information
    • Its about YOU!

Read just ONE of the true stories from UNSTOPPABLE by Cynthia Kersey before you go live and your phobia will melt away.

You could always pound a bunch of beers and blame any blemishes or screw ups on the booze!

      I've heard that works!

Of course I'd never do anything like that.

    Hey Tiff!

I have by now done over 10 live shows using Ustream... And I have to agree with you when you say the first time nervousness levels are little more than just comfortably scary.

    BUT..

Go ahead and do it anyways...

    One tip though...

Dress up well like you would for a seminar or some high end corner room meeting and watch yourself in the mirror... you will feel more confident.

    Another tip...

Have a short list of things to say handy in order to ensure you don't forget or miss anything out.

I personally do that on 1/4 of an A4 sized sheet... There's not real reason for that crazy practice... but I guess it makes it much more comfortable for me when I have listed all the main topics and sub topiuvs and all I have to do is speak about them as if I were speaking to a friend.

LOL Jason, I love it - that's my new plan.

Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone. I guess if I can
show my fat ass in a swimsuit to everyone, a video chat should be a piece of cake!
