Tips on outsourcing web development and link building jobs ??

Hi warriors,
I need some good suggestions here...I am doing too much stuff on my own so now I need to outsource more !!!

I am setting up a network of websites to use travel affiliates. All the websites will be using wordpress + thesis so I will need some customisation, data entry, webmaster works. For this I need somebody who can work for me about 20 hours a week or even more going forward.

I have put openings on the like of odesks, elance but I am not impressed by the quality/cost ratio. For instance I have been asked $10-18 per hour which means $1800-$3000 per month, which is several times higher than the salary I am paying very good guys in India for my daily job company (yes I also have a daily job in an ecommerce company)

What do you web marketing fellows suggest to find good guys for my side job? I do not want to mix my personal stuff with my daily job ones, hence looking to hire somebody else.

Any suggestion to me and this forum I am sure will be much appreciated!

I've almost always had to train people. You might want to try over on wahm.com forums too. There you may find a few more people that understand your work versus being from another culture.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Thanks dvduval for your reply. I agree that training will be needed and I do not mind. I had to train the designers and developers who are working for my daily job company. The tricky part for me it to find RELIABLE and not expensive html/css people. I could pay around $200-300 per month for a full time one.

My worry is that after I train them, they will go, resulting in a big loss of time...

      What's your experience about this?

Check out the blog in my signature (the outsourcing one). I'm actually setting up lots of sites based on Thesis and Wordpress as we speak and the guy doing this is being paid $200 per month full time (plus a bit extra based on performance). He really didn't know much about WordPress when I hired him but I just teach him a bit at a time (using screencasts) and he makes a Google Doc "template" of what he needs to do for each site he rolls out. He can do it very easily now.

Anyway - I use onlinejobs.ph to hire people. I think it works really well. I got access through being a member of John Jonas' program.

I FULLY believe that having your own employees is the best way to go here. I am absolutely SURE that you can get a full time person who actually KNOWS Wordpress for $350 or less. Per month.

If they don't need to be able to write in perfect english, it's easier. If you need them to produce the content for the sites also, that's a harder mix so you need to focus on getting an english writer first and teach wordpress to them.

Hi Chris, very useful reply! What's your experience with reliability and honesty with people in the Philippines? I know Indians but never had experience with the Philippines!

Any help to get started is appreciated.

I checked the job site you suggested www . onlinejobs . ph but it looks like you have to pay upfront to get in touch with the candidates. This does not smell good to me given that I have seen other similar offers. In many cases after the subscription what it happens if that the candidates do not exist.

Can you or anybody else share your experience with this website onlinejobs . ph

Vyperr - I can tell you A LOT about OnlineJobs.ph and the way it works, along with working with Filipinos.

First - I find that Filipinos are generally quite honest and want to do a good job. I don't think they are the *fastest* workers in the world, but they DO work and they get stuff done. I'm very happy with my experiences so far and I'd say I'm still learning.

Filipinos speak pretty solid english (and I've found excellent writers), they have decent Internet access and they are willing to learn new things. Working online has become a popular way to get work in that country.

OnlineJobs is run by John Jonas, and it's a very useful site. The candidates certainly exist, and it's a growing site. I post jobs there and have candidates come to me. It's easier than filtering through resumes and I have some tricks on how I filter candidates before they even contact me.

To get access to the site you can either pay for it directly or you can join John's thing where he provides training modules to give you your Filipinos. It's actually a very good system. He sells it in two ways. First is the usual recurring revenue system ($97 per month) and the second option is (what I did) to buy it all up front so you have perpetual access to everything including the job site. I remember it being $697. Not cheap but I can't tell you how much this site has helped me and I use it OFTEN, since I've been adding people. Knowing I never have to pay for it again makes me very happy.

        Any more questions just ask.

@vypper: You may want to try easyoutsource.com. This is also a job site where the online freelancers are all-Filipino, like onlinejobs. The main difference is, you don't have to pay easyoutsource anything to register and get in touch with the workers. You can check the site out and register for free.

Once you are registered, you can browse through the job seekers list, choose and contact the ones whose profiles interest you. You can also post a job and wait for the job seekers to apply to the job you posted.

With easyoutsource, you get access to a great pool of online freelancers without having to pay anything. All you pay for are the services of the freelancers and you pay them directly in whatever payment method you agree with.

I went to your very nice site for more info but cannot find any pricing anywhere...

Is there any place that you publish your fees without having to go though the whole process of filling out forms, being contacted etc.?

If always feels like a sales pitch when you can't get the info up front and your website and your comments looked great, so I was hoping to just be able to find your info posted or provided somewhere for a VA.

      Thanks

Very interesting thread thus far. I thought the best price you could get someone from the Philippines for was at about $400 - $500 a month though.

In either case, that's something I am starting to look at more now these days too. I'm a full time internet marketer now (quit job in Oct 2009) but had always done everything myself - except very technical stuff i.e. custom Wordpress themes.

        @MelH:

Visit the job site easyoutsource.com. You can browse through the list of registered online freelancers without having to register. You can look at their profiles and their pricing. However, should you want to contact any of the freelancers, you'd have to register.

When you do decide to register, you will find that our forms are short and intuitive and you will be up and running in just a few minutes

I recently switched to oDesk and retained to Bestjobs.ph to search for better candidates since some resumes in Onlinejobs have been duplicates of Bestjobs and that's so frustrating. Also, if you're in need of someone who's an expert with outsourcing, I can recommend Tyrone Shum. He's always lots to share and he's willing to help newbies in outsourcing like you so check his recent blog posts here:

    http://www.internetbusinesspath.com

so you'll know what I'm talking about. He's a gold mine for me and his free resources that I'm still using now.

I have tried outsourcing via odesk and RAC and even warriors here. I have outsourced to India, Phillipines, Austria and USA ..and have both good and bad experiences from them all.

Its not about the nation, its about the specific guy/girl/firm that agrees to your terms and then reneges.

I found that a payment based on work accomplished(with strict deadlines), rather than, number of hours worked , worked best for me.
