Camtasia Video software is it easy to use?

Hi Guys,

May seem a stupid statement in the title, but i am after info from very expierienced users of Camtasia screen capture video software, and how easy it is to use, just want some really great tips on how to produce spot on video tutorials for my products!

I have been using "Snag it" still screen capture for illustrating my info, but i find them tedious to produce, and i would much rather create these in video format, so can anyone give me pointers on how to prepare my info presentation before i start filming the step by step video session, so i don`t botch it half way through?

Cheers....John.

Camtasia is not all that hard to use, spend a day messing with it and you can figure it out.
You can also view their tutorials, which explain a lot as well.

You can download, the free 30-day trial and use it and then buy if you like it. Camtasia makes product creation, via video a snap. The tutorials are very good and can steer you in the right direction as well.

    Hi John,

Download the free 30 day trial of Camtasia 7 when you have a chance.

The workspace might look overwhelming at first, especially if you've never edited audio, but there are loads of extremely helpful resources which will speed up your learning curve.

From the Help tab, navigate to the Learning Center, Technical Support, Tutorials, or the very active User-to-User forum.

In the tutorials, there are sample project exercises. There are also PDF handbooks on topics like getting better sound quality.

I have Camtasia 7 open in the other window, can you tell?

    I rely on it everyday.

Seriously between the tutorials that camtasia provides and ones on youtube.. you will be up and running in no time.

Camtasia is pretty simple to figure out.

Prepare some good notes or an outline before you start recording.. that way you stay on point and don't ramble all over the place.. and you'll do fine.

Also worth mentioning.. If you really want to be a hotshot at it..
      I highly recommend

Dave Kaminski's stuff... He covers EVERYTHING on how to be a video pro at his site.. Web Video University - How To Create, Get Traffic and Get Paid From Web Video - WebVideoUniversity.com

      and he way over delivers.

so it's worth checking out if you want to get good at video, screen captures, or any of that stuff.

I have been using it since v6 and now v7 is so much better, cleaner, and user friendly. You can ever record your video and post it straight to your YouTube account without much fuss.

Once you get the hang of Camtasia you will love it. Like anything once you learn how to use it, it will get easier and easier. I remember creating my first WP blog I actually thought I was going to start crying. Since that time I have built over 100 WP blogs, so keep at it you will get the hang of it. Frankie

The thing I like about Camtasia is that it is very versatile. You can make full blown videos but what I also like is you can make really simple videos by creating a PowerPoint presentation first and then importing it in to Camtasia. This is a really quick way of making promo videos.

I also do online training and use Adobe Captivate which is also a great product. More geared towards training though although you can import videos that you have already created. You can also get a 30 day trial of the product.

John, I love camtasia! Just as Frankie says - it will get easier and easier once you get to learn it...

in addition to the free tutorials that are great from Camtasia - you can check out the stuff fellow warrior Kevin Riley puts out....I learned alot from him about Camtasia 'tricks' to make my videos better more than a year ago and never ever have regretted that - an investment worth 100 times the mere bucks his wso was...

See if he still has any of that open still his video university course...

and watch how others do videos to learn from that too!
    Cheers, M

Yes it is easy to use for making basic, (but) boring videos.

There is some skill and practice required to make your videos POP. It's good practice to add at least one new technique with every video you make by going deeper and deeper into Camtasia's capabilities. This way, you will be productive while gradually becoming very proficient and interesting in your productions.

Also, it would help to take advantage of the features of PowerPoint as well, especially transitions, so that when combined with Camtasia you can create some very dynamic videos.
