What Are Benefits Of Publishing Duplicate Content Articles On A Blog?

My blog is about 90-95% unique content that I have written. Does anyone recommend posting pre-written articles related to my blog on occassion when I am not in the mood to write, will this penalize me in Google for duplicate content in your opinion?

I know first hand most duplicate content does get indexed on the major search engines. Will this penalize me in your opinion for my overall SEO of my blogs content.

I see it all the time but at the same time I will not hurt my blogs rankings in the process. Your thoughts?

    It won't hurt your site ranking but Google will most likely choose between your version of the article and the original.

    The original article will probably have more backlinks but there's a way round things. If you change the page title and include an editor's note, combined with user generated content (comments) you should be ok.

    Check with the ToS of the article/site you want to re-publish first.
