organic compound testing

Could someone take a sample / herbal powder formula, and test it to find what exact amounts of what ingred. are in it, and produce it to compete with what I sell on my site?
If I wanted to test their prod., to see if they are on to my game where would I go?
Different ? here I know

      A lab can test it and identify the ingredients (would cost you) - but if you plan to use it to recreate their product or release info about their product ingredients - you may find yourself in court if they hold a patent.

      You might want to talk to an attorney about your plans first.
