Hey Warriors,

What would be the best way to digitally deliver a 1GB information product? I'm worried that it could be a customer support nightmare having just one file/download link, but I was thinking about hosting it with e-junkie so not to slaughter my bandwidth.

Any thoughts?

Either break it up or sell dvds.
A ;ot of people still have dial up and a file that size would be a nightmare.

you could host the videos on amazon s3 and have them watch them online or if they want, give them a link to download each video.

Bandwidth is super cheap. I'd split it up and offer it in both complete and modular versions.

Thanks for the quick replies. It's actually going to be a 10+ hours of mp3 audio. I'm not 100% it's going to be 1gb, but figured that's about what it will end up at.

I think Jose Delgado had the right idea- Amazon's S3 servers will host huge files and give great download speeds for something like $.17 per gigabyte of bandwidth used

I'll give that a shot! By the way... is the S3 link a secure download, or can anyone find the link? Obviously I have to protect my Thank You page with DL guard.

S3 is absolutely the way to go here. Yes, you can use S3 as an SSL encrypted transaction (though I don't see why you would need that in this situation).

      Link is: http://s3.amazonaws.com

Yes it's easy to protect the s3 link.

I have searched for the link (I am pretty sure it was on warriorforum) but can't find it.

Essentially you authenticate a connection to S3 from your php file which is behind DLGuard (or whatever else you are using).

People can't then access the content unless they are logged in (you also need to take off "everyone" access in S3).

      Hope this clarifies.

      Cheers

That's way too big. It doesn't need to be CD quality. Compress it.

10 hours of mp3 files shouldn't be anywhere near 1 GB.

Thanks all - I think I know what I need to do.

By the way, for just a voice audio program, what would be the optimal compression ratio to get the best quality at smallest file size?

Why don't you host them on a free file-sharing network?

    Hey Punkaj,

Because it is a saleable product and need to protect the download.

    Thanks Don! That's very helpful.

Btw, if you or you think a lot of other people are concerned about the economy, their retirement accounts, and jobs, shoot me a PM. I'll need reviewers soon.

    Thanks,

Maybe you should think also about the option to deliver the files on DVD - Kunaki is a good option here.

    Hey TJ,

I'm definatley considering it, but this is launching mid-November so not sure there's enough time to get that produced.

If I compress with Don's recommendations, that should be a pretty manageable file size. I have to wait to see how it ends up when all the recording is complete.

You're probably going to hit 200mb tops.

Here's an MP3 Size Calculator for you.

Yes it won't be anywhere close to 1gb. But you will still experience a lot of customers with dial up that are going to have problems even if it is a couple hundred mb. Putting them all on a disc would be the best route.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I'll probably end up with an option to download with a single link, and an option to download from 3-4 separate links. Unless anyone strongly encourages me NOT to do that.

Print on demand physically shipped is a great option to. I developed my system to make print on demand as easy to publish, sell, and deliver as digital.
