Yeah, we know that this suppose to be a win win. The blog owner free up some of his time, get unique contents updated regularly etc. but ...

If you are the blog owner, do you really think it's a good idea?

Well, I am asking this because I have just visited one of my favorite blog by a marketer but then found quite a no. of recent posts were not what I have expected. I tend to find useful information and ideas that I would usually agreed but now.. no more.

Some guest bloggers even post paid reviews on there:confused:

This sounds like a quality control problem that could have cropped up with any kind of online medium - web sites, email, articles. Or the blog owner just doesn't care about reader satisfaction.

Having guest blog posts doesn't mean you have to give up quality. It just requires being clear to potential contributors what your expectations are (which stand in for the readers' expectations) and then being firm when something comes in that is sub-standard.

Use that as an opportunity to make your guest posts be really useful and stand out. Choose a really high content that gets a lot of traffic like 1500 unique visitors or more. Google ezines, article directories, blogs that have the word "write for us". But not the write for pay sites.

Bloggerlinkup.com is a place you can go to find bloggers who need content.

Or try Eric Gruber's articlemarketingexperts.com directory of high-traffic sites.

The key is to make your post stand out.

I agree with genietoast. You want your blog stand out by having a well-known guest blogger. You have to find out if your readers would love the tone and writing style of your guest blogger. Otherwise, it can harm your readership. I believe your goal is to retain your loyal readers as well as to increase your readership.

  • In my opinion it's not a good idea. A blog is a very personal thing, and your readership comes to your blog not as much as to find information but to find an OPINION THEY TRUST.

In order to have recurrent readership, you must have "clicked" with your readership and that's why they keep on coming. The last thing you want to do is to send them off by diluting your blog's pureness with random opinions from different sources.

Unless they are some notable figure. The only upside is you get a link back to your site, beyond that if there site isnt getting viewed much or considered an authority in their niche.. your just kicking dust

On my niche blogs, I do have guest posts but what I look for in a guest post is quality. I review each submission and make sure it is good for my blog and I also tell them when they submit the post that I have the right to move around words and add sentences to make the post more friendly to my blog
