What Makes a Site get High Alexa Ranking?

I realize that a high Alexa ranking is not the biggest deal but what exactly influences the ranking?

    It measures how many people with the Alexa toolbar installed come to the site in comparison to all the other sites on the web.

    It's based on where those with the Alexa toolbar installed go. I don't remember who said it, but in an old thread I remember reading you can increase your Alexa rankings by installing the toolbar, going to your site, and refreshing the page over and over.

        Alexa normally updates the ranking once in 3-4 days ... sometimes it takes a week to see the rank updates.

        What do you base that on? If I don't have the toolbar installed how will Alexa know I refreshed the page? That's the only real data metric they have, such as it is.

        Looks like Roger answered that for you. I wouldn't have known anyway, I pay zero attention to Alexa and it's distorted rankings. All anyone has to do is look at how many unique visitors you get and compare that to what Alexa says you get and you'll know their data is nearly worthless.

    This is what you do, whenever you login to the Internet go to google directory where your site listed and follow the link to your site but before you following the link make sure turn on alexa toolbar! Browse around all of your webpages and when you leave your website turn off the toolbar.

    I think your Alexandra ranking has to do with your SEO performance. The higher your site ranks in the SERP the higher your Aexandra ranking.
