    Useful tip .. but I feel we also should target people in the niche that we operate rather than following blindly what the news agencies in your area are following.

      Not necessarily.

      Let's say I am a local store marketing replacement tires for vehicles. Well it might NOT be such a hot topic on Twitter, so you might ask yourself who buys tires? Let's just say for arguments sake it's a 75% male (25-65) influenced purchase.

      You just aren't going to get a lot of followers because you sell tires. However, you can definitely tweet about football, baseball, or hockey etc. And a lot of the audience that such a news agency would be targeting - would specifically be sports orientated.

      @OP. Aaron I have GOT to put one of those twangy throat tunes into one of my videos. ;-)

      yipyip, I understand what you are saying. Your particular niche may require that you are more selective about who you follow.

      This is just one thing that I do for my offline clients.

      Like the breakfast shop that I help out. They don't only target people who eat breakfast....

    Nice tip. One thing I like about this is to follow people that your target profile is following rather than just follow everyone that's following them.

    Recently, Twitter has made things easier to mine location based information within tweets, profiles, etc. If you combine location with keywords/tags to refine your target follower profiles, your followers are much more laser targeted and responsive.
