Hello Warriors,
it´s possible I am doing this all wrong, but I just joined this Forum and this is my first post. So, if you can point me in the right direction, I will be really grateful. Even if you call me names I will not retaliate.
At the moment I try to find my bearings in the vast universe of Internet Marketing.
About PLR: Looking for content I also came across PLR. I understand it´s spreading content with my name as the author.
This has two problematic aspects:
First: The reader is under the impression, that the "whatever it is" originated in my mind. He decides to trust me. Since I am not the author, I am cheating and I don´t deserve the trust of this person.
Second: If I decide to use PLR in order to make money on the internet it would be a felony.
If my reasoning is faulty, please let me know.
Additional thoughts I had about PLR.
There is a chance, that the statements, comments, articles etc. I am using do not represent (in part or as a whole) my view on the subject.
I would have to read every product very carefully to find out if the position of the real writer does correspond with my view on the topic. This would be a time consuming activity and if I have to rewrite even parts of the product, the advertised advantage of the PLR would be lost.
Any advice? Thanks for your attention.

    Sherab,

We don't usually discuss PLR in the copywriting forum. Here at WF the term "copywriting" is reserved for sales letters and emails, etc. directly intended to make sales. Very little PLR is of this type. This thread will likely be moved.

In regards to your stated questions - I'm really not sure where the felony idea came from. Many, many people out in the world use other people to write their material. For example, most, if not all, of the speeches the President gives, are written by professional speech writers. He may or may not give them the original idea. It's likely that he has someone whose job it is to provide the talking points and then review the speech to make sure it accurately conveys his position.

The only difference between paying someone to write content like this just for you and buying PLR is that with PLR many other people have the same rights to present the writing as their own. The best PLR restricts how many copies are sold so there is less competition.

Yes, if you are trying to build trust, versus just using the PLR for SEO purposes, you will need to read it carefully and potentially rewrite it so that it agrees with your point of view. PLR is also more effective for SEO when you rewrite it.

If you write it yourself then you have to research the material, select topics, organize them into articles with key points, and then write the material. Reading and editing PLR takes less time. At least for me. Even if the only thing I use it for is ideas for articles I write in my own words, then properly priced PLR still helps me out.

Nobody is likely to call you bad names for asking an
innocent question. You'll find a lot of threads about
using PLR and public domain content, but mostly on
    the main forum.

The WarriorForum has a search feature that's
not too hard to figure out. You'll find your questions
    about PLR are common ones.

      Hello again,
thank you very much for your speedy replies.
I hope to learn about the structure of this forum in a short time.
Right now I will spend some time studying WF and its various sections.

I don't really see what's giving you this impression? I don't use it myself, but from my understanding, PLR type stuff is designed explicitly for you to be able to do whatever you want with it.

In other words, once you buy it, you own it and you can do whatever you want with it.

    Sherab,

    You make some valid points.

You can view the PLR as research notes as an outline which you can edit and add to rather than the finished article. This is still faster than starting from scratch. Only use PLR which you agree with and is high quality and that your readers will benefit from.

See yourself as a commissioning editor for you website, your job is to edit and organize the content not necessarily write every word.

The key thing is whether the visitors are getting value from the content.

      Hello all,
it seems I have to revise my view of PLR and thanks to your input I have now less qualms using it from time to time.
I think madison-avenue put it clearly: The value for the customer is key!
      Thanks again

Think of PLR as better than a blank slate. You don't have to start from scratch and do all the research - the PLR writer has already done that.

I think there's a difference in what you do to the PLR depending on where you're posting it.

    - If it's a niche site that you are not putting yourself into, you can certainly use quality PLR as is. I do recommend you change the title and the first and last paragraph at least. You'll want to add your keywords, plus in the last paragraph you'll want to direct the reader to do something (click on an affiliate link, buy your ebook, read a different post, or whatever.)

    - If you're posting to your personal blog or a blog with a big ME factor, change the PLR. Add your personality, your story, your examples, etc. Make it unique.

As far as PLR products go, you do want to make them your own. Add quality - your experience, case studies, graphics, screen shots, new title, and more information. For example, if the PLR ebook has 5 chapters, add a 6th. If there are 7 bullet points, add 3 more or make each bullet point a chapter. Maybe you have other PLR you can add to it? Also, you can add screencasting videos to add value.

    Good luck!

I think the best thing to do with PLR is to read through it a few times, and start rewriting sections that you don't quite agree with.

You'll never get a PLR product that aligns perfectly with yourself, so it's up to you to change it and make it a unique product that you CAN put your name on.

If, for instance, it's a PLR about building a mailing list and you haven't yet, and it says, "I built my list to 1,000 in 30 days." Then that would be a lie if you claim that. However, if you change the wording to something that's true then there's no problem at all. Just be sure that you can back up any claims that are made. After all, it will become your product, so you have to be proud of it.

The trick is to change the plr content a bit. use different sources and some of your own ideas to make it your own. try to create an angle. you will increase your profits and trust by doing this and then you can truelly call it your product.
