YouTube charging to watch videos

When did YouTube start charging to watch videos? They aren't doing it to all of them, but once the word gets out that you can make a few cents from doing it, I'm sure most of the videos will be pay to view. It sucks.

That video is 45 minutes long, not the usual 10 minutes. Maybe that has something to do with it?

They started this back in January or February. I believe they are charging for films that were in the Sundance Festival.

Rest easy. They are trying it out for long, high quality videos like this, and movies. The free part should always be available as that's the basis of their platform. I read about this last month or even two months ago. Did you know you can rent a movie now and watch it on youtube? I think it's still beta so it might only show up for some users, or it might show up for anybody. Not really sure if just any user can now do it but I bet someone else could enlighten us more.

Yes, I even saw videos, both episodes and homemade charging. Now every wannabe movie producer is going to think he or she can become rich by charging people to watch their videos,.. which you can't even preview to see if they are crap.

that shoulda been something they implemented a while ago. show older movies online for a fraction of the ticket price.

I don't think that this is particularly new, I've been getting that message whilst viewing videos months ago...

That movie is "blocked in your country on copyright grounds".

LOL, yup, you can rent the video for 72 hours at the cost of $1.99.

I usually watch just the first 30 seconds of a YouTube video because most of them are bad,.. that $1.99 could add up to a lot of money before I found something I wanted to watch completely.

haven't heard of this before.... I can't see it applying to all videos, they'd lose millions of visitors / video views!

It must just be for some specific videos / shows :-)
