How to make money in a crappy economy

I just did a blog post with that title. The first line in the post is:

Here is the short answer about how to make money in business: Do the things that other business people are not willing to do.

Wondering if that makes sense to you?

I think it applies to IM as well. Successful people do things that other people don't do. Talent aside, can it be that simple?

What new ways are you using to make money in this undoubtedly crappy economy?

I read about a wealthy guy who ran a clean-up company.

"Trash is cash" he would say.

just a head up. What crappy economy. LOL my business is booming better than ever.

WHY? supply demand. Yes I have read many stories with people who have made fortunes...why? people are desperate and will buy things that they really need. Remember its all about supply demand. SELL STUFF people want.

To many time i see people trying to sell stuff that they think people want!! WTF! that wont work. SELL STUFF THAT PEOPLE WANT...or need desperately and you wont even know about how bad or good the economy is, cause you have a booming business.

I really don't believe the "hype" and all the negativity.

Recently, i was on ebay looking for some stuff i needed, like shoes,a wallet, little things which i often just like to get from ebay because i am "cheap"

I was amazed seeing the most bids on things like designer wallets, Calvin Klein underwear, stuff like that. If the economy is so bad, why are people spending a fortune on CALVIN KLEIN underwear or some designer wallets?

There is ALWAYS a market, believe me!

What new ways are you using to make money in this undoubtedly crappy economy?
Nothing new, AT ALL. The longer i am in IM, the more i realize its all the constant rinse/repeat of SOLID and PROVEN stuff. Offer solutions to people who have a problem! <-- you can apply this to all niches. Even in a hypothetical "post apocalyptic world" where the economy would be totally broken down..there would be people who have desires and needs!

I agree with what you say.

It's true that people are losing jobs but there really hasn't been a huge drop in the consumer spending on items. I mean look at the holiday season back in December, how much did people spend? Was there are drastic difference from last year or years before that when the economy was good?

People are still spending money on all the things they used to and bad economy is not stopping most of the people from pushing their hands down their pockets for their wallets on the cash register.

So the question is, do we really have to change the ways we market in today's economy?

I would say NO. About 10 years ago when the economy was awesome, Internet selling wasn't big but it is today and number people who buy things online are increasing constantly so I think that even if the economy is worse than 2001, more people are buying online in 2010 than they did in 2001 so it really doesn't matter.

      Just my thinking

A big thing for me is not buying into all the poor economy hype. The news is always negative, so I try not to watch it. It is easy to get in a negative mindset when that is all you hear, and I always make more money when I am positive.

I hadn't noticed the economy was crappy to be honest.

Just too busy making money and helping other people make money.

There's a lot of truth in what you're saying.

Many people create mental barriers over what they're willing and not willing to do.

In many cases you make the things you don't really want to do so huge in your mind that they become obstacles.

The quickest way to shrink those obstacles down to their real tiny size is to just take action and do the things you're trying to avoid.

Then you'll realize they really weren't so bad after all.

In some cases you'll fell pretty good about doing what you thought was so bad and you'll grow as a human being.

DO the thing you fear the most and your fear will evaporate.

          Kindest regards,
          Andrew Cavanagh

  • Yeah that makes sense of course my friend. It's easier to make money online than most people think. You don't have to sell your own product, you can be an affiliate for someone and you can make some nice money and you don't even have to ship anything out or deal with customer support all day long.

Being an affiliate is one of the ways that I started making money online. The great thing about it, is you can sign up to be an affiliate for free and also you only need a domain name which can often be purchased for $10 or less. I think $10 or less is a good investment in today's economy. It's getting rough out there and jobs are getting more scarce than ever, so why not make yourself your own employer?

I have had this problem as well, but i have found if you become an affiliate for several sites money will pour in. Not only can you join Click Bank, you could also outsource SEO work for a higher price and make bank. I have done this for several years and learned the tricks of the trade. I now do my own SEO work and am very happy with what i achieved. The main thing is never give up, you can achieve anything. Hope you have a great day. Thanks

I really think there are some serious problems out there, but I think with problems comes opportunities too. I am not going to sit back and try an weather the storm. I am going to work harder than ever on my business and see if I can put myself in a better position when the storm passes. I am willing to do what others are not and i am willing to put in the work to get it done!

That is one way to go about making some money during times like these (promoting yourself as someone who will do something that others don't do). Of course as others, have mentioned this isn't the only way.

It is so difficult to get your head around "the whole world is my market" when you are online that most just give up. Just think about that for a minute. The entire online world.

There might have been a recession here but things are booming somewhere. Find a niche or two and that is all you will need to be convinced.

    Best -
    Gregg
