Make Money From Twitter..

Twitter is hot right now and it's growing in popularity, I'm
not sure how many users there are right now but, it is
certainly a big enough user base to be worth investing a
little time creating a product.

How about..

1. Get a designer to create a Twitter motive and set up
a Cafe Press shop to sell customised Twitter T-Shirts
with "Follow Me" on the back.

2. Get a few thousand Mouse Mats created and send them
to your customers or subscribers as a thank you gift. Of
course you would include your Twitter URL in the design.

3. Bumper stickers with "Follow Me"?

Come on people.. lets have a few more ideas!

Hi John,

How about -

a) take note that twitter probably doesn't have the most expensive running costs in comparison to other social networks

b) it is nudging social networking in a different direction, slightly more 'instant gratification' combined with a touch of voyeurism

c) try and see where 'this' is heading and position yourself ahead of twitter as the 'next big thing' - ideally with a smart, but acceptable monetisation system already in place and a new concept that basically drains everyone out of twitter and into itself

d) point and laugh at the rat race

I realise it's not 'making money from twitter' as such, but just a thought I am pondering...

Possibly not a good idea if you consider one of the UK slang meanings of twat.

Although I did consider this myself as some type of comic spin-off

I'm finding it interesting to note that if you look at the 'traditional' (ahem) point of view, you could imagine many people thinking that twitter would only be a hit with the ladies, due to the conversational and multi-tasking elements. Interestingly, it's not.

If you like the idea of an "audio" or "video" Twitter, you need to check out Utterli - Mobile Multimedia Discussions.

It's really cool. you can post audio, video, pictures, and text for free to multiple social networking sites. I like to post video to it from my cell phone and it posts to my Utterli account within 10 minutes. When I do that, it automatically sends a Tweet about it to my Twitter account.

As for monetization...

I have only been on it a few days...but it has driven customers to my site and I got signups from for my private membership, so I guess in two full days I made about $200. And I don't even promote my site. WEird.

So along that veign, special incentives to your clients and customers to "follow" you on twitter where you give "twitter only" discounts?

I don't know. I got nothing.

Twitter only discounts/ coupons is a good idea.

I like the cafepress ideas as well, T-Shirts might do very well. At least get folks discussing it more.

How about stickers and/ or easily removable signs for laptop lids for while in cafe's or cell phone holders for the mobile tweeples. Everyone is always checking out what phone you have.

EPIC FAIL Whale Tattoo

This "fail whale" tattoo seems somewhat relevant here...a fail whale is what you see when you try to log on to Twitter but they are overloaded. And this guy had one TATTOOED on to his body! Now that's some mad, mad Twitter love.

I'll admit that I'm a Twitter infant for marketing purposes but this is brilliant John & everyone.

You know that Twitter is gone mainstream when an article was finally posted up here for mobile twittering on my local MSN page. Just wish I could find the link. Better late than never I suppose.

Once I can figure out how to most efficiently keep up with the thing outside of the obvious tools then I may get smarter and be more socially active in that space.

Go over to Twitter: What are you doing? and check it out. It's almost like being in a giant chat room.

The basic principle is, you post a "tweet" about what you are doing right now, and it has to be 140 characters or less. But it basically ends up being like a giant chatroom where you can meet and check in with other like minded people. There are a lot of internet marketers on there.

Put out a tweet that says you just put up a new salesletter and that there is one glaringly obvious mistake somewhere in the sales process. The first 50 or so to find it and contact you get a gift. Make the mistake be that the amount charged on the order page is 1/2 of the price listed in the sales copy.

You are not making me any money with this idea. I printed my Twitter URL on 1000 Yen bills and handed them out at the train station. They all just ended up being spent and are sitting unnoticed in cash registers. Your idea has cost me a lot of money and I demand a refund!

I like the idea of twitter only discounts.

Right I'm thinking of a password protected blog post (has to be a very special post ("how to make $50 a day", for example).

Give password only to those who are following you on twitter (you may also want them to sign up for your newsletter).

Just a thought.
