What Is The Best Way To Place Your Content On WP?

Hello All,

I have a few sites that pull a decent amount of SEO traffic. One of them has about 50 articles(as pages) on it which are accessed via a pull-down menu. However, the menu extends beyond the fold of the page and looks sloppy. The home page itself is static, and I'd like to keep it that way, without any sidebars showing most recent posts etc.

My question is this:

My articles are pages, and I do not seem to be getting direct traffic to those pages. Rather, everyone arrives on the home page. Are posts more SEO friendly, and do they tend to drive traffic directly to the post rather than to the home page? I'm guessing that if the page is indexed, then visitors would naturally arrive there, correct? Is that content contributing to the home page's keyword diversity? In other words, is it significantly responsible for my traffic if the visitors are not directed there from any single page of article content?

What is the most effective way to add content that is SEO optimized on a static page? Is adding a blog a good idea, and if so, how should I go about doing that?

I know this post is wildly scattered and asks a lot, so any general insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
